Behind the Scenes: Inked Edges

Have you ever looked at those shabby vintage style products and wondered how you could get your page to look a little more shabby? I certainly have. Many times. Especially when I use some background paper to clip to a strip for a label or journaling strip, and the result just doesn’t look shabby at all. But then I found a super easy way to actually get that shabby look, and all it takes is just a few steps in photoshop. Take a look at this page: There are several places where I clipped papers to a shape, and without inking the edges the result would look something like this: Then I inked the edges, and this is how that turned out: Pay attention to the edges … So, if you would like to know how to get that effect, here’s the deal: Inked Edges Step 1: In the layers panel, select the layer of the paper/photo/element you want to modify. Double click the layer in the panel to open up the Layer Style dialogue …

Monday Highlight: Travel Journal – Western Frontier

I’m getting myself behind again, and before I let that happen again, I must share one of my recent discoveries with you. It’s Suzanne Baird from Roadside Designs and she has a wonderful template series out that is perfect for scrapping your traveling memories. What I especially like about those templates is that they look like pages from a magazine with a very clean and simple design, and yet those pages (in my opinion) look gorgeous! Travel Journal – Western Frontier by Suzanne Bairds Each template has room for photos and journaling, and the composition is perfect if those two are the things that you want to focus on when scrapping your travel memories. Here are some sample pages that I snagged from her blog: And of course, you can use these templates to scrap any other topic besides traveling, too. Here is one page I created based on one of the templates from “Travel Journal – Western Frontier” (but of course not without giving it my own little “twist”): This was the apple I …

Treasure Sunday: My Bell

I think I found my next treasure, though I have to say that I almost had a fight with myself, since there were two layouts in the galleries that I really liked. But in the end, the winner is … (drum rolls please!) “My Bell” by WendyW I love her composition and shadowing, the color scheme, and how she placed her title, and aren’t the photos the cutest?

Freebie Friday: May Faves

I’m so excited today! I’ve got another freebie for you! After the long break I had to take due to my further studies, I’m finally on the roll again, and it makes me happy! This one almost turned into a little headache, when I had finished it more than halfway through and then my software seemed to get stuck, but then my computer decided to rally its little spirit and allowed me to save everything without crashing. So here, without further ado, let me present my latest freebie template: This one is based on my layout “May 2011 Favorites,” which I just scrapped, and which about gives you an idea how far behind in my scrapping I’ve gotten myself recently. Anyways, with the weekend ahead, I hope you’ll get a chance to use this template, and as always: Happy Friday, scrappers! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops Designs. …

Hybrid Hub: Card No. 10

I can’t believe that my last post in the hybrid hub has been more than two months ago, but here I am back, finally managing to present you with another one of my very early creations. This is a card with a fairly simple design, using Julie Billingsley’s “Home of the Brave” digital scrapbooking kit. The kit goes with a 4th of July – all American theme, but that didn’t stop me from using it in a more generic way for this card. Basically, I attached three layers for the background added a two-layer strip, two stars and a label with the sentiment. That’s all it takes to get a quick card made.

Inspire Me: Aly

It’s Inspire-Me-Wednesday, and who of us doesn’t appreciate the occasional inspiration they can get from one of our fellow digi-scrappers? Today I’ve picked the amazing and wonderful Alyson Hall (who also is a sugarbabe at SSD). Time and again, I’ve had to pause a moment to admire yet another one of her gorgeous pages, and if you check out her galleries, you’ll know exactly what I mean. It seems like every single one of her pages has something that makes it stand out, and it would be impossible for me to tell, which of her layouts would be my favorite one. If you haven’t checked out Aly’s gallery yet, make sure to do so, because she might be just the right kind of inspiration you need for one of your future pages … Click HERE to get to Aly’s gallery at DST.

Behind the Scenes: Some “Scripty” Fonts

I admit it flat-out. I’ve been a font-lover for it seems like forever. I’ve loved fonts and accumulated them on my computer long before I ever even heard of digital scrapbooking or knew anything like that existed. Now that I’ve been on Darcy Baldwin’s CT (she’s a fontographer at Sweetshopppe – for those who don’t know her) the number of font files on my computer seem to explode (and yep, I’ve heard the rumors that this slows down your computer, so eventually I’ll have to start downsizing my font database). Anyways, the point I’m trying to make: I love me some fonts. So, I thought today, for an easy start, I’d share another couple of my favorite fonts with you. This time I’ve gathered some of my more script-style fonts, and here they are: These are the ones I go to first, before even looking at some of the other fonts on my computer (when I’m looking for something scripty). In any case, they are available for free at the usual font downloading places (dafont, …

Monday Highlight

I’m back! That is, I’ve been back for a while, but I finally made it back to posting again, and as always in the beginning of a month, there is a lot to share. SSD has a new portfolio out with a new set of great challenges for this month, so you might want to check that out, if you haven’t yet. You can do that here. A new month at The Daily Digi has started as well with a bag full of products that I’m sure are worth this deal! And since it’s Monday, I’d better start off showing you another great product that I’ve fallen in love with, and that is Jenn Barrette’s “Feet in the Sand.” It’s summer, after all, and many of us are still on vacation, which means traveling, fun at the beach, enjoying life. Feet in the Sand by Jenn Barrette “Feet in the Sand” is perfect for scrapping all those beach memories, and it comes with a full load of beautifully designed papers and elements. What I especially …

Monday Highlight: Quarterly Assortment Vol. 2

Ok. To be honest, I should be putting my nose into my books, and studying. But since I’m just too tired for that right now, and not even remembering half of what I’m reading, I decided to take care of the Monday Highlight instead. After all, I have something fun to share with you again – the SSD Quarterly Assortment. If you are a routine scrapper, you probably don’t care much about the QA, but even with my own rather large digi-stash, I have to admit: I still love the SSD QAs. Not only do you get a whole lot of papers and ellies for your money, but what I love is that this year the designers decided to collaborate on their contributions, which means: Instead of a random collection of various mini-kits (which are still a great resource for hybrid cards, etc.), you get products that amount to 4-5 full size kits, plus templates, plus a font. A great deal, as far as I’m concerned! Anyways, I played with some of the latest QA, …

Freebie Friday: Fishing

Whaa! I haven’t been able to keep up blogging, recently. Too much on my plate! But I still wanted to get you another template today. It’s based on one of my recent pages “Gone Fishing,” and what’s special about this one is that it comes with three clipping masks that will help you blend your papers. You can blend papers, or you can simply delete the clipping masks and do your normal scrapping as usual. If you don’t know how to use the clipping masks to their full potential, I’ll try to get you a tutorial about this by next Tuesday (fingers crossed)! Anyways, I’m hoping you’ll enjoy this template, and as always: Happy Friday, scrappers!
