Christmas Has Arrived

I went into town the other day, and I realized something: Christmas has definitely arrived. Even here. How I know? Because I found this: Need I say more? Talking about an overdose of Christmas stuff. Looks like they really want to make sure you don’t miss the point. Which means that the stuff should end up in people’s houses sooner or later – though I can’t say I’ve seen much of that yet. But in the public places you can definitely tell: Santa Clause is coming to town! PS. Which reminds me, I still haven’t shown you our in-house decorations yet. Will get to that, I’ll do my best to make sure, because you don’t want to miss that! 😉

December Daily – Week 2 Recap

Another week has passed, which means I have a whole new set of December Daily pages ready to present to you.   (This page was featured at Logyourmemory.com earlier this week!) Being well into the project now, I have to say that I still don’t feel overwhelmed at all trying to catch up. Having prepared that foundation page, and given some thoughts to how to tackle it before I started, really helps me now to stay on top of everything. It’s an easy project, and I look forward to scrapping a new day every single time. On to another week …   PS.  All images are linked to the gallery for credits. PPS. You can find my Week 1 Recap HERE.

A Lot Like Christmas

First it was only my apartment, then it was our dining hall, and now, finally even in our lobby it begins to look a lot like Christmas. As I’ve said before, whether you like the style and decorations really is a question of personal taste, but at least signs of Christmas are popping up everywhere even around campus. Well, if that’s not reason enough to welcome the season!

St. Nicolas Has Come

December 6th. In Germany that is a date all the children look forward to. Because it’s St. Nicolas Day. That morning kids wake up to find a Santa boot or a Christmas stocking in front of their door – filled with sweet treats like cookies, chocolate, candy, some fruits, and nuts, and maybe even a small present. Waking up this morning, I knew I wouldn’t find said boot in front of my door. No one even knows about St. Nicolas here. But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave a little love in front of someone else’s door (or in their mail boxes for that matter!) So, I spent all afternoon together with my students baking cookies. And while I have no Santa boot or stocking for the cookies to  go with, I know some people around here still will be glad that there’s something like St. Nicolas Day. And that there’s someone here who cares about St. Nicolas Day. On that note, happy St. Nicolas Day to all near and far!   PS. The cookies you …

December Daily – Week 1 Recap

What Mountain Climbing Has To Do With Cookie Baking

I went mountain climbing with friends today; and thanks to one of my friends, I learned something new. There’s that old saying that goes like this: The earthen vessel may not blame its potter, asking, “Why have you made me this way?” Likewise – my friend felt free to instruct me as we were hiking – the baker shouldn’t blame his cookie: “Why have you turned out so sweet!?” And don’t you know – I had to agree with my friend: There’s quite some truth to that. What? You’re still not quite understanding what cookie baking has to do with mountain climbing? Well, here’s the story: I’d brought some homemade cookies with me for sharing as a snack with others during the hike (it’s Christmas season after all). I’d made those cookies combining two recipes, and while they still tasted pretty good, they also were a little too sweet for my liking. It made me feel like I had to apologize for the cookies when sharing them. But my friend was right: I couldn’t really …

Hybrid Hub: Card No. 23 – Merry Christmas

It’s that time of the year again. My favorite season! And in honor of the season, today’s hybrid post – of course – has to be a Christmas themed one. This one is the latest card I created with Julie Billingsley’s “A Frosty Christmas.” The holly leaves on the label I found among my Photoshop Custom Shapes, and for the sentiment, I simply used one of the fonts on my computer. Here you can take a closer look at this card:
