Summer Travels 2020 – Day 4 | Sommerreise 2020 – Tag 4

Piombino We wake up early, and make for the ferry right after getting up. At the ferry, we still need to confirm our ticket at the ticket office. Niece No. 1 goes to do that, while I finish my morning toilet and we have a quick breakfast. It doesn’t take long, and they let us embark. Heute müssen wir früh raus, um rechtzeitig zur Fähre zu gelangen. Am Anleger müssen wir zunächst unser Ticket bestätigen lassen. Während sich Nichte Nr. 1 darum kümmert, beende ich meine Morgentoilette und wir machen ein schnelles Frühstück. Summer Travels 2020 – Day 3 | Sommerreise 2020 – Tag 3

We wake up to glorious views, and enjoy breakfast surrounded by rolling hills, fields, and the view on typical Tuscan farm houses.After breakfast, we set out again. Our day’s destination is the the coast. Still, we get to enjoy the typical Tuscan scenery for at least another hour. From the chapel road we move on, and pass through picturesque little towns like San Quirico. Soon enough, however, we leave behind they typical Tuscan looks, and learn that Tuscany can look differently, too. Wir erwachen zu herrlichsten Aussichten und genießen das Frühstück umgeben von sanften Hügel, Feldern, und dem Blick auf typisch toskanische Landhäuser.Nach dem Frühstück geht es los in Richtung Küste. Aber für die nächste Stunde bleibt die Landschaft Bilderbuch toskanisch. Wir fahren durch eine Reihe malerischer kleiner Orte wie San Quirico. We wake up in beautiful surroundings. After breakfast, we set out on a grand tour of Tuscany. We spend most of the day on the road, stopping here or there to enjoy the scenery. Wir wachen auf in schönster Umgebung. Nach dem Frühstück gehts los auf große Tour durch die Toskana. Den größten Teil des Tages verbringen wir damit, die Landschaft abzufahren, und die Gegend zu genießen.                   Here is the  tour that we did today, starting in the Chianti area in the north, passing San Gimignano, Siena, Taverne D’Arbia, Asciano and ending at the Chapel Vitaleta. Hier ist die Tour, die wir heute gemacht haben. In Chianti (Gegend) ging es los, über San Gimignano, Siena, Taverne D’Arbia und Asciano. Summer Travels 2020 – Day 1 | Sommerreise 2020 – Tag 1

Germany – Switzerland – Italy/Chianti | Deutschland – Schweiz – Italien/Chianti With niece no. 1 having so much time at hand, and my summer holidays having just started, we’ve decided to go on holiday together. To Italy, we want to go, to Tuscany. The borders have just opened again, and with the camper we’re independent enough that we’ll dare to go. We set out around 4:20 am in the morning. There is little traffic at the time and we make it to the Swiss border in good time. At the border, we’re just asked where we are going, then they let us pass. We still need to buy the Vignette, and then we’re on our way again. Past Zurich (which as usual is a traffic nightmare), we make straight for the Swiss heartland. We pass the beautiful area around Lake Lucerne, and here we get our first glimpse of the majestic Swiss Alps. We stop for a little Knäckebrot breakfast at a small rest area, then niece no. 1 takes over driving, and we’re making our …

Camel Farm | Kamelhof

With sister 3 and the bunch of little people we went to visit the camels that live on the camel farm just one town further down the road from us. We thought the kids would be excited to see the camels. But it turns out they were far more interested in the little carts and vehicles they had out their for little people to drive around. We had fun either way, and it gave us a little something to do. Mit Schwester 3 und dem Haufen kleiner Leute ging es heute auf den Kamelhof im Nachbarort. Wir dachten, die Kids fänden es aufregend, die Kamele zu sehen. Aber sie waren viel mehr an den Fahrzeugen interessiert, die der Hof für kleine Leute dort zur Verfügung stellt. Uns hats Spass gemacht, und die Kids kamen voll auf ihre Kosten.                              

Panorama

Niece No. 1 had a special treat for me today: She took me to Pforzheim where we visited the Panorama called “Great Barrier Reef.” It’s one big photo taken of the Great Barrier Reef. Inside, you can climb a tower so you can look at all the levels of the reef, and the light changes from day to night. We were greatly impressed by the views. Nichte Nr. 1 hatte heute einen besonderen Leckerbissen für mich. Sie hat mich nach Pforzheim mitgenommen zum Great Barrier Riff Panorama. Es handelt sich um ein gigantisches Foto des Riffs. Drinnen kann man einen Turm besteigen von dem man aus alle Höhenlagen des Riffs in Augenschein nehmen kann. Das Licht wechselt dabei zwischen Tag und Nacht. Ein sehr beeindruckendes Werk.                              

Something is up in school | In der Schule ist was los

I’m can be aunt at the moment. And that means lots of time spent with the little nieces and their toys. Today, we had a school day. A Playmobil school day. And it all started pretty well, with the students behaving very well. But then it didn’t take long until they turned the school house into a big mess, and I decided, it’s better to take off the rest of the day. Ich darf Tante sein. Und das bedeutet, ich kann viel Zeiten mit meinen kleinen Nichten und ihren Spielsachen verbringen. Heute war Schule angesagt. Playmobil Schule. Und es fing auch ziemlich gut an. Die Schüler waren zunächst ganz brav. Leider dauerte es nicht lange, da war das ganze Schulhaus in ein Chaos umgewandelt. Da dachte ich, es ist besser, wenn wir uns den Rest des Tages Ferien gönnen.                                

Schliffkopf

With the Black Forest in reach, I decided to go on a little outing. To the Schliffkopf area where there are a number of different trails to chooses from. I picked a trail that was about an hour walk, and with the weather being so nice, it’s the Black Forest from its most beautiful side. Mit dem Schwarzwald in Reichweite habe ich mich zu einem kleinen Ausflug entschlossen. Der Schliffkopf ist ein Gebiet mit verschiedenen Wanderpfaden. Ich habe den Rundweg gewählt, der so etwa eine Stunde braucht. Und hier erlebt man den Hochschwarzwald von seiner schönsten Seite.
