Monday Highlight: A Minibook of Memories

Yes, you’re right: It’s been a little quiet in my galleries recently. For one, I’ve been really busy with work and real life lately, and for another: I got inspired. “Inspired?” you ask. Yep. Another one of my inspirations. This time it’s all about minibooks. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just hop on over to this place HERE. Take a look at this lady’s scrap-creations. In my opinion, she’s created some pretty amazing minibooks. Or THIS one. This lady, too, has lots of super fun travel books/journals that she creates. So much inspiration to look at. It actually got me thinking: I hardly ever print out photos. And wouldn’t it be fun to have a little collection of photos, memories, journaling to put together into a small photo/minibook? Well, I didn’t just think about it. I actually went ahead and did it. Or at least, I started it. Still got a lot more pages to do (and am realizing that this book probably exceeds the size that I had expected it to …

Just a Microwave

Photo Challenge Day 17: Technology Since today’s photo challenge topic is about technology, let’s take a closer look at … a microwave in China’s kitchens. Kitchens are a curious thing in China. They are quite different from Western Style kitchens. Let’s take the microwave for example. They are not an entirely unknown species around here – as a matter of fact, a lot of families even might have one. But whether they are used a lot or not is a another question. I’ve seen people own a microwave (and judging by the way it looked, owning it for quite some time), and yet they didn’t know how to operate it. But then, Chinese people have the wok. And with that, they have all they need to do some fine and delicious cooking!

Treasure Sunday October 16th

Did I really skip two Sundays in a row? Well, but I went treasure hunting today again, and found quite some gems … A Feeling of You by milatolela Starting off with a pretty fall themed page. I love the soft colors with the pops of pink. The stitch clusters give this page a great dynamic, and then, most of all, I think that photo is sooo adorable. Thankful Hearts by lingovise Staying with the fall theme, I have this beauty next. She did a great job with the various clusters, beautifully adding the papers and elements, and with all the business of this page, I love how the photo still stands out. What a precious moment to capture! Fabulous Fall by aussiekat Still more fall pages. I can’t help it – autumn is one of my favorite seasons … Here, I love the artistic feel of this page, the various pops of colors, and the playful arrangement of flowers and leaves around the photo and journaling. Great shadowing, too! Grow Bloom Dream by wombat …

P2D Inspiration: Getting There

New Saturday, new P2D inspiration. Today, I’d like to show you a page, for which I used to traditional paper layouts as inspiration. What caught my eye with “City Girl,” was the background paper – showing a city map (similar – or maybe the same papers – are available at Designer Digitals), and the overall composition. From the second page, I took the road sign, ticket border, and the journaling strips. Now, for my page, I didn’t have any map background; but I figured out a perfect solution. My China Lonely Planet has lots of simplified black and white maps. I simply scanned in one page with the Shanghai map, played a bit with various blending modes, and there: I had the perfect solution, and a pretty cool map background. Worked for me! Here, I’ll show you my page, too:

Saturday Feature: Spaghetti Syndrome

I’ve got a serious disease. It’s called spaghetti syndrome. It’s serious, because it affects my life every. single. day. Here you can take a look at what the spaghetti syndrome looks like: Yep. It’s serious. I told you! Can you tell I have a problem? It’s that I actually need all these cables, and use them regularly, too, but there’s just no way to keep them organized. They just love to take on a life of their own. There’s the cable for my keyboard, and the one for my mouse. And then there is the cable that connects my camera to my computer, and the one for my dvd-drive, too. I don’t need to mention my printer, and oh, of course, I shouldn’t forget my tablet. There’s also some cables for my EHDs, and then the USB hub needs to be plugged into my computer as well as into a power outlet. Talking about some serious cable spaghetti here! Oh, and I almost forgot the headset, too, which I use for noise recordings, etc. Really, …

Fun with Chinglish: Be Free

Be free for the children under the height of 1.2m. Note: When posting anything in the Fun with Chinglish section, I don’t mean to show disrespect towards anything or anyone in any way. I’m simply sharing the fun we get to have with all those great signs & documents!

Freebie Friday: Wall

I know, it’s a little late – yet again – but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! At least I got you a new template to play with this week, and that’s something, right? Anyways, for this particular sample, I had to go down deep into the recesses of my digiscrap archives, to dig up this little treasure based on a page that I created almost exactly a year ago to preserve one of my memories of my last trip to the Great Wall. It was part of a double page creation, and the other part actually made the GSO at the time! But enough talking, and on to present you my newest, my latest … TA DA … TEMPLATE!!! Oh, yes, and before I forget: Cindy (have I ever told you she’s one of my favorite template designers?) whipped up a new and pretty pretty freebie template to pick up on her facebook page. Ok, now I’m a little too lazy to hook you up with the facebook link right now. (I …

Hybrid Hub: Card No. 16

October is the perfect month for flying kites – at least in Germany, where I grew up. So, it’s the perfect timing to share with you this happy thank-you-card – one of my all-time favorites that I created last year. I used Misty Cato’s “Blue Skies Smiling,” a beautiful scrapbooking kit that comes with pretty patterned papers, and the perfect set of elements for this hybrid project. For the sentiment, I used Darcy Baldwin’s Stamp Pad Alpha.
