Beautiful Autumn Days | Herrliche Herbsttage

English Autumn has finally arrived, and while you still have to look more closely to find all the colors and splendor, it is there somewhere – between the bushes and other vegetation on campus.

Complete Lockdown | Voller Lockdown

English We’re back to it: This weekend our place shut down completely, and we’re under full lockdown once more, with online classes, and the gates completely barred from any traffic in our out. We’re wondering how long this will last this time.

Our Daily Testing … | Unser täglicher Test …

English These days there’s no sleeping in. Every morning around 7 we are asked to go get tested. And it’s not an option. No exceptions made, not even on the weekends. For those of us with on a late schedule it’s quite a challenge having to get up in the wee morning just so we can get the test. And for those who have an early morning class, they have to get up even earlier to rush to the test place, get the procedure done, and make it to time on class. And even when you have no class, if you have to be out at seven in the morning on a Saturday, there is certainly no thought of sleeping in – not even on the weekends.

Surprise in the Kitchen | Überraschung in der Küche

English Have you ever had this where you bought something and what you got was not what you expected it to be? Well, this very thing happened to me just the other day. I was preparing to make corn bread. And in my pantry I had this can of what I thought was cream style corn that I might just try to throw in with the bread recipe. (I like experimenting sometimes, even when the recipe wasn’t asking for this.) But I never even got a chance to experiment, because the moment I opened the can I realized it was nothing like I expected. Inside the the can was just a big blob of yellow jello. Needless to say, it never made it into my corn bread. While I like to experiment, I wasn’t going all out on that experiment.

That Roof Disaster | Die Dachkatastrophe

English Remember a couple of weeks ago when I told you about the scare I had one night when one of the glass tiles of the roof in front of my window exploded, and shards even scattered into my bedroom? Well, today the workers came to fix said roof tile. And although every apartment next to mine is empty these days, giving them lots of access without any disturbance to any residents, they somehow decided they wanted to climb onto the roof through my window. And so, that’s what I was able to watch – them fixing the roof that had robbed me of my sleep still very recently.

Hoped Too Soon | Zu früh gefreut

English I’m starting to realize that my joy about campus opening up might have come too early. These days things are all the way back to frequent tests and even stricter measurements than before – and they were never relaxed to begin with.

New Freedom? | Neue Freiheiten?

English So, we’re taking our normal route through the main gate, and as we walk along past the other gate that we would have usually taken, hadn’t it been closed off for the last two years, we realize: That gate is operational again! It’s a like a breeze of freedom has entered campus, making us a tiny bit hopeful that things might lighten up?

End of a Holiday | Ferienende

English The holidays are over, and that means the students are coming back. This also means, it gets really crowded at the gate, and the traffic gets a little crazy. Lucky for us campus residents – we usually don’t need the extra scanning of codes, because our information is stored with the facial recognition used at the gate. Or I guess, it depends whether you think such scrutiny and automated processes are lucky.
