Behind the Scenes: December Daily Twenty-Twelve

Like every year around this time, all the talk is about the December Daily project. So, for today’s tutorial post I’d like to take you behind the scenes of my own DD project this year, sharing some of my thoughts and processes.   Last Year If you have looked at my DD album from last year, you will have noticed that all my pages were based on the same foundation page: photos on the left (stuck into photo pockets), journaling on the right side with two clusters of embellishments, the title, and the date info. I had created myself a foundation page template which helped me jump start each page quickly, and without having to spend much thought on composition, choice of papers, and placement, scrapping each page was a breeze. Even now, one year later, I still love how my pages turned out, and when I first started thinking about this year’s DD project, I was seriously tempted to just use the same template and format again. The thought of having two very similar …

Enable Me: December Daily

Yesterday, I started talking about the  December Daily Project 2012. So, today would be a good time for me to take the opportunity and enable you with a couple of cool and helpful tools. Inspiration Of course, the #1 place to find inspiration would be Ali Edwards’ blog. She has a lot to say about making it work, and you can find a lot of awesome inspiration when you browse her blog, and she recently released a new set of templates for DD albums.   Templates Nettio Designs Since we are talking about templates already, templates are a great tool to speed up your scrapping, and there are a couple more template designers I’m aware of who have created products for a december daily project. Lynette (Nettio Designs) from the Sweetshoppe created a set of templates for a mini-album, which are perfect to help you jump start your project. She also posted some great DD inspiration on her blog. See her post on the Foundation Pages, her completed 2011 album with a couple of very …

Document Your December: December Daily 2012

Wheee! December twenty-twelve is at hand (just a couple more days, yay!), and for many of us scrappers that means we are embarking on a new journey with the December Daily project. My 2011 DD was a blast, and so I’m super stoked to get going on this year’s album. In fact, I’ve been so eager to start that I began documenting the season with Thanksgiving (as I did last year) even though that seems a little early (yes, I can’t help it – I just love this season!). Most of you, however, won’t start until December 1st, I’m sure, so there’s still a couple more days to get ready. And with the proper preparations, completing your DD 2012 can be a breeze. Really. Last year, I documented the process of creating this project with lots of  articles, how to’s, and inspiration, and I’m hoping to share more of what’s going on behind the scenes with my own project this year. But, since I don’t want to repeat myself, today I’m just going to …

December Daily – Week 5 Recap

I did it! As of today, I’ve completed my 2011 December Daily project, and I’m all excited about it. Have all but the last week printed and cut already, and tomorrow I’ll assemble it into an actual album! But before I’m running away with myself, let me show you what I’ve done this past week (images are linked to gallery for product information): And now I’m very relieved that I can move on to some other scrapping projects again. But I’ll post my finished album, once I can get good pictures of it. PS. For more inspiration, see Week 4, Week 3, Week 2, and Week 1.

Behind the Scenes: Create Your Own Layered Christmas Tree

Christmas 2011 officially now is a thing of the past. But for us scrappers the good news is that our holiday scrapping is just beginning, since I’m sure that most of us have a lot of memories that we want to preserve with your layouts. It’s the perfect timing, therefore, to bring you this little tutorial on how to create your own paper clipping Christmas tree. Check out my DD cover page, and the tree you see there is what you’ll learn to do in today’s tutorial:   In this tutorial you will learn how to …   … create your own clipping masks using a custom shape; … rasterize the custom shape; … divide the custom shape into various fields/shapes by using the Eraser Tool.   Here’s how it works … I’m assuming that you’ve already opened your canvas, and are ready to start …   STEP 1 |  Create a Triangular Shape The first thing we need to do is create a triangular shape. Simply press U to bring up the Custom Shape …

December Daily – Week 3 Recap

Time is flying! I can’t believe another week has past already. I’ve already completed my third week, and only one week till Christmas is left! Here’s a glimpse at my pages and activities this past week …               And I actually managed to also create the cover page for my front and back cover.   Can’t wait to see everything printed out and assembled into an actual album. Will definitely show you when it’s finished! I actually love how doing the December Daily project helps me make this season so much more meaningful. After all, I’m a lot more intentional about how I spend my days as I’m trying to incorporate something related to Christmas and its traditions into my daily activities. I hope you still have just as much fun with your DD project as I have. And don’t forget: Keeping things easy is half the work. PS. For more inspiration, see Week 2, and Week 1.

Behind the Scenes: Re-Coloring Overlays and Brush Layers

As promised last week, I have a very quick and short tutorial today on how to re-color brush layers and overlays (ie. as used in my current December Daily project). (See the overlay with the date cluster that frames the journaling page.)   In this tutorial you will learn how to … … add a Color Overlay Style to your brush layer (or overlay).   Here’s How It Works …   STEP 1 | Add a Color Overlay to Your Layer Assuming that you already have your canvas open and created a brush layer (or any other kind of solid colored overlay), in the Layers Panel, double click on the layer that you wish to modify. That should bring up the Layer Style menu (or click on the little fx symbol at the bottom of your Layers Panel). On the left side of the pop-up window, you will see a list of Styles options. Check “Color Overlay” to open that menu. Click on the little color box (by default it’s red in my version of …
