A Very Sad Day (Or: Please Play Fair!)

Ein trauriger Tag (Oder: Bitte seid fair!)   Today is the very sad day that I always knew I’d be facing one day. But when it does happen it still feels pretty bad. Today is the day when I discovered that my designs have been posted on a Russian file sharing website (Yandex) for others to download 🙁 . I always knew that – in spite of the fact that I beg people in every single freebie post to play fair and not redistribute and share images from my designs – there are still those who don’t care about all the hard work that has gone into creating these scrapbook designs; those who’ll try to take advantage no matter what. It is a very frustrating and disappointing feeling (especially because I’m generous enough to freely share my designs; and all that people have to do is to simply send their friends and blog readers here to mistyhilltops.com if they want others to enjoy these freebies, too). I never understand how this can be so hard, …

Our Daily Woe

Unser täglich Weh Check this out: Seht euch das hier mal an:           Yup! That’s lunch in our dining hall. More precisely: baked potatoes (a yummy dish, although it might not look all that yummy on the photo here; but that’s beside the point). Take a closer look at the silverware used here to handle the meal. Yes, you’re seeing quite right. And no, I wouldn’t choose chopsticks to eat a Western meal of baked potatoes and fresh salad. But that’s our almost daily woe in the dining hall – the lack of silverware. Sometimes, genius strikes me and I remember to pick up my silverware before I join the line to get my food. But more often than not the forks are gone and then it means make-do with whatever options you have. And well, with the help of the knife you might actually be able to tame that baked potato and get small enough pieces for your chopsticks to be able to handle! Well then, cheers, everyone! Jap! Das …

Enable Me: Free Digital Stamp Set

Inspiration am Mittwoch: Kostenloses Digitales Stempelset   Hey peeps! It’s Wednesday and time to share something useful that I found on the www. These days I’ve been working on this year’s Christmas card project (did I ever tell you that last year’s cards got lost in the mail? 🙁 ). But I’m going to try again this year, and so I’ve been searching the web for lots of inspiration. One of the things I discovered a couple of days ago is a bunch of Christmas card tutorials on youtube by this one lady (I’ll make sure to link you up with the inspiration next Wednesday). She uses lots of stamping on her cards which totally got me inspired, too. Except that I don’t have any Christmas stamps to work with. (Last year my sister gave me a bunch of Stampin’ Up stamp sets she doesn’t need anymore. But honestly, I’ve rarely used them these 1 1/2 years. It maybe that these stamp sets just really aren’t what I need for my projects and that if …

Taobao Shopping Spree

Taobao Shopping Tour I’m sure you all agree that November 11th is a special date. Not only we do like the uniformity of the numbers, but also the fact the Nov. 11th around here mainly means one thing: Shopping. On Taobao, which is a huge online sales website. And on Nov. 11th, most stores on this site have special sales. And for someone like me, who likes to celebrate Christmas, today was the perfect time to get started on my Christmas shopping. So, armed with a stack of money and a general idea of what I’m going to get, I got together with my friend and we went on a virtual shopping spree! Which in turn means: Over the next couple of days I’ll be busy collecting parcels. Well then, I’m in on the hunt!

Catching Autumn

Den Herbst einfangen It’s been a bit chilly lately. But I don’t mind, because it means that this year we’re getting somewhat of an autumn feel around campus. And that means taking some time with friends to get out there and catch that glimpse color and gold that otherwise is so very rare around here!

Mein Tagebuch: November Wortassoziationen   November is here and for this week I have a couple of word associations ready for you. Take a look at the options, then write about what comes to your mind. You can either choose one of the pairs to contrast and write about your preferences; or you can simply pick one of the words and simply write what comes to your mind. November Wortverbindungen 1. Kerzenlicht oder Kaminfeuer 2. Familie oder Freunde 3. Pullover oder Jacke 4. Kürbiskuchen oder Karameläpfel 5. draußen oder Sessel And here’s a layout inspired by one of these associations: Und hier ist ein Layout, bei dem …

Freebie Friday: Holly & Pine – Part 1

Freebie Freitag: Holly & Pine – Teil 1   Ok. This week I’m really excited because it’s time to start sharing a new freebie collection with you. And I spent pretty much every spare minute of this week to work on it (I don’t think I ever spent more time on any of my previous kits). But: I love how it turned out, love some of the patterns I managed to create for the papers, and I love how big this collection is. Yet another record: I’ve never added more items to any of my other collections. But then I thought: It’s a Christmas collection! Not only is Christmas my favorite time of year, but it’s also the time of gift giving and generosity. So, because it’s Christmas (or soon will be) you’ll get a bigger and better freebie collection than ever before. (And because I had so much fun working on it and so many ideas of what I wanted to include that it was hard for me to stop!) But before I keep …

Print a Sailboat

Druck mir mal ein Segelschiff   I did tell you about strange things going on on campus during Culture Week, didn’t I? Well, one of the curios I ran into this week was a 3D printer. Not that I actually care about filling up my home with articles of blue and white plastic (maybe a little gray, too). But that 3D printer was a curious thing, indeed. And it makes me wonder, what will we be able to “print” in the future? …
