It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Es fängt an, sehr zu weihnachten … I know, those Americans among you will probably say, it’s much too early (as it’s not even Thanksgiving yet). But then I know those Germans among you will say, it’s’ about time. And since I can pretty much do whatever pleases me in regard to my Christmas decoration, I decided to start setting up my home for the season. So, this afternoon, I had some students over, and they were very eager to help me set up my Christmas tree. Ich weiss, die Amerikaner unter euch werden wahrscheinlich sagen, es ist noch viel zu früh (weil’s ja noch nicht mal Thanksgiving ist). Aber ich weiss auch, dass die Deutschen unter euch wohl sagen werden, es ist an der Zeit. Und weil ich mit meiner Weihnachtsdeko im Grunde machen kann, was ich will, habe ich mich entschlossen, meine Wohnung für die Festzeit vorzubereiten. Also sind heute nachmittag ein paar  Studenten gekommen, und sie ging eifrig zur Sache, mir dabei zu helfen, meinen Weihnachtsbaum aufzustellen.

Ooooh, I’m so excited because the Holiday Season is just around the corner, and yes, I’ve been using most of my spare time to be busy crafting and creating, and getting ready for what’s to come soon! Getting Ready for the Season

Und bald schon kommt die Weihnachtszeit   Yes, yes, you’re right, it’s quite early to be thinking of Christmas already. But in cases such as mine, you can actually never be too early to start with the preparations. (Did I ever tell you that I enjoyed my first Christmas treats in September already, bought some decoration stuff, too, and a couple of Christmas themed ribbons in August? Yeah, well, I had to take advantage of being in a country where Christmas actually means something to people.) In today’s case, however, I’m talking about my annual Christmas card adventure. Adventure, because you never know when exactly those Christmas cards may arrive. Sometimes they get to their destination within 10 days after mailing them; and in other cases, such as last Christmas, they arrived late in February. And that’s why I’m concerned that I might actually be too late in the game already. But I’m also really excited, because as of this past weekend, I managed to finish crafting all my Christmas cards already! Now I just …

P2D: Season of Joy

I’ve decided to extend my blog to a wider range of readers by adding a German version to my posts.    Ich habe beschlossen, meinen Blog einer erweiterten Leserschaft zu öffnen, indem ich meinen Artikeln eine deutsche Version hinzufüge.   It’s a bit early for Christmas, I admit it, but for various reasons I’m getting quite into the Christmas mood these days.   Es ist ein bisschen verfrüht für Weihnachten, ich geb’s ja zu, aber aus verschiedenen Gründen bin ich in den letzten Tagen so richtig ins Weihnachtsfieber gekommen …   Reason #1: I’ve been working on my annual Christmas cards already (almost done), because last year they arrived like 2 months after Christmas even though I’d sent them way early. My conclusion, the earlier I get to mail those cards, the better.   Grund #1: Ich habe angefangen, an meinen jährlichen Weihnachtskarten zu arbeiten (fast fertig), weil meine Karten von letztem Jahr etwa 2 Monate nach Weihnachten ankamen, obwohl ich sie sehr früh verschickt habe.
