A Hero of the Special Kind

I have a mind for traveling. So, today, I’ve been out and about for a very long, short day (because my day will be lots shorter – 6 hours, to be precise – than the average day is). I also got to spend lots of time at various airports, and then I got to meet my hero – who went out of his way to make sure I’d catch my connecting flight. And when I say “out of his way”, I really mean, he went far beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before: he organized a vehicle to quickly get me from one terminal to the other (and he came along with me to make sure I’d find the right check-in counter immediately); he called at the check-in counter before I arrived so that all my stuff (boarding pass, luggage tag, etc.) was ready before I even got there; he by-passed the line to get my boarding pass and stuff to directly hand it over to me and take care of my luggage, and he showed …

Through the Window

Home is … enjoying chocolate spread and cheese, all in one day! Home is … watching the cherries on the cherry tree turn red and hoping that I’ll be there to pick them. Home is … feeling chilled even on an afternoon in late June. Home is … looking at the sky and finding a piece of blue between the clouds. Home is … actually seeing clouds. Home is … hearing the birds sing in the trees. Home is … not having to worry that my shoes will get all filthy as soon as I step out of the door. Home is … surfing online without waiting for a page to open. Home is … being able to go the bank, and when you look out of the window you get to see this:

Freebie Friday: Summer Morning – Part 1

I’m excited because it’s time to begin sharing a new freebie kit. Summer is right around the corner, which means we’ll have plenty of opportunities to make memories of lots of lovely summer mornings. As usual, this kit is cram packed with goodies – from selected unique elements to the everyday flower, ribbon and button asset. You’ll get 25 patterned and solid papers as well as over 70 elements – all for free. And as always, we’ll begin with the alphas (of which there are four this time).   As always, if you enjoy my designs, I would be really pleased if you could spread the word and point others this way, so more people can enjoy these freebies. Don’t forget, however, that my Terms of Use apply (no reselling, or re-destributing parts or all of any of my products, and sharing only by sending others to mistyhilltops.com), and that you may use my products only for your personal scrapping needs. And now that I’ve made myself clear, all I’m left to do is wish …

Behind the Scenes: A Case for Digital Scrapbooking

I’m sure it hasn’t gone unnoticed: I love digiscrapping. I love the creative outlet it gives me to play with beautiful papers (one of my oldest passions), messing around with colors and art, and on top of that to combine it with another one of my passions – photography – while at the same time being able to preserve memories and keeping a track of what’s going on in my life.   I love all of that! But what’s best about it: I never have to worry about the creative mess that comes with actual art projects. There’s no real cleaning up to do afterward, and yet, the results can be stunning, and they can bring joy to others. Another biggie that kind of got me hooked to the digital side of scrapbooking, is the fact that you get to scratch things and start all over again, without losing anything but the time you’ve invested. I remember well, when – in the past – I got myself a nice stack of pretty scrapbooking papers (the …

Freebie Friday: A Cup Full of Winter – Part 5

We’re there, we’re there! I’m happy to share with you the last part of my winter kit “A Cup Full of Winter.” Now you can finally go and play with it, yay! As always, my Terms of Use apply (see sidebar to the right), and now I have a couple of announcements, still. If you wish to get the bonus to this kit (a sled and an ice skate), all you need to do is scrap with this kit, add your layout to a gallery that that non-registered users can visit (since I’m not be registered at every single gallery, and some are restricted for registered users only), and post a comment with a link to your layout here  (you’ll easily find this post later by simply searching the tag “Freebies”). I will get back to you via email and send you the links to this bonus. Note: The bonus part will be available only for the next four weeks, until March 22, 2013. Any layouts posted afterwards will not be considered. And now, I’m happy …

Welcome …

We finally made the big move, and are proud to share with you the result of two months’ of preparation at last. But before I go on sharing with you some of the exciting new features at MistyHilltops.com, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to my sister who made all of this possible! Hugs, sister!   What’s New You’ll find the new MistyHilltops.com is quite different from the old. Not only did we try to give this site a fresh and simplified look, but we also worked hard to make the navigation through this site a lot easier. Now, instead of lots of different parts to this site, you will see that this site has four main sections: My personal blog (where I’ll continue to share stories from life) The photo gallery (related to my personal blog) The Digiscrap Corner (where you’ll find tons of inspiration just like you’ve gotten used to) And an all new scrapbooking portfolio (where you can see samples of my latest scrapbooking designs). And what’s best of all: if …

Behind the Scenes: 6 Ways of Scraplifting

Who of us hasn’t stumbled upon a pretty scrapbook page in one of the galleries, and thought, Oh man, why haven’t I come up with the idea for this page? That, however, doesn’t mean you still can’t use that idea on one of your own pages. The solution to the problem? Scraplifting, duh! But there’s more to scraplifting than scraplifting, if you know what I mean. There are lots of ways, in fact of how you can lift someone else’s layout.   No. 1 | Whole Layout Probably the most common way of scraplifting (at least for my part) is to reproduce the whole page. You take a layout, look at the way papers and elements are arranged, and then you copy that straight onto your own canvas.       No. 2 | Clusters Another way of scraplifting is to take one cluster and reproduce it on your own page. This could be the main cluster of a composition, but leaving out other details, or it could be parts of a cluster. Lifting clusters of other …

Special Treat: Dominosteine

All0w me to tell you about a special treat: Dominosteine. Yes, literally translated that means domino rocks – or more simply: what you may know as dominoes. But I assure you, they neither taste nor feel anything like a rock or one of those game chips. Really. Where I come from, it’s a very common Christmas treat, but where I live now they have come to be a little treat from heaven. And now, let me tell you why. You see, they are cube of chocolate covered pastry. And if you haven’t figured it out yet, let me assure you: me and chocolate are very best friends! Anyhow, you take a bite of this little rock, and you realize it’s actually soft and juicy. And when you take a look, you’ll find that inside this little rock there are three layers: one of soft gingerbread, one of marzipan, and a thin layer of jelly. The perfect combination for a yummy Christmas treat on a cold winter’s day. Off to enjoy some more Dominosteine.
