December Daily – Week 3 Recap

Time is flying! I can’t believe another week has past already. I’ve already completed my third week, and only one week till Christmas is left! Here’s a glimpse at my pages and activities this past week …               And I actually managed to also create the cover page for my front and back cover.   Can’t wait to see everything printed out and assembled into an actual album. Will definitely show you when it’s finished! I actually love how doing the December Daily project helps me make this season so much more meaningful. After all, I’m a lot more intentional about how I spend my days as I’m trying to incorporate something related to Christmas and its traditions into my daily activities. I hope you still have just as much fun with your DD project as I have. And don’t forget: Keeping things easy is half the work. PS. For more inspiration, see Week 2, and Week 1.

Freebie Friday: Clean Slate

Finally. First it took me forever to create this template, and then my folder had issues so that I couldn’t place anything in it (or copy from it for that matter to simply copy what I had saved in it already into another folder), and then I wasn’t able to post because my internet is so bad recently. Talking about being annoyed! But, I finally managed to get you a new template. This one’s based on my newest layout “Clean Slate.” I hope you’ll have fun with it. And don’t forget to link us up with any of your layouts you create using one of the templates. And of course, I’ll take the freedom to remind you to not forget to pick up the daily free templates that are posted each day through the month of December over at SSD. Happy Friday, scrappers! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops …

Hybrid Hub: Star Box

I have something special for today’s hybrid post. A star shaped Christmas box. I found the template and instructions on the canon paper craft website, but instead of using their paper patterns (which would use a lot of unnecessary ink and paper), I simply created my own clipping masks from their templates, and clipped my own papers to them. The papers I used come from Kristin Cronin-Barrow’s Tis the Season for Love, and I Love Cocoa. Creating my own clipping masks also allowed me to resize this box and make it a little larger than the original. This box has double layers everywhere, which makes it quite sturdy.

Enable Me: Creating A Custom Shaped Bokeh

I stumbled upon a super fun and easy tutorial recently about how to take pictures in which the lights take on fun shapes. As soon as I saw this, I knew I’d have to try my own hand at this, and true enough, it’s just as simple as it seems in the tutorial. So, if you want to know how to take pictures with a bokeh such as this one, simply hop on over to Kevin’s and Amanda’s blog to check out their tutorial.

Behind the Scenes: Re-Coloring Overlays and Brush Layers

As promised last week, I have a very quick and short tutorial today on how to re-color brush layers and overlays (ie. as used in my current December Daily project). (See the overlay with the date cluster that frames the journaling page.)   In this tutorial you will learn how to … … add a Color Overlay Style to your brush layer (or overlay).   Here’s How It Works …   STEP 1 | Add a Color Overlay to Your Layer Assuming that you already have your canvas open and created a brush layer (or any other kind of solid colored overlay), in the Layers Panel, double click on the layer that you wish to modify. That should bring up the Layer Style menu (or click on the little fx symbol at the bottom of your Layers Panel). On the left side of the pop-up window, you will see a list of Styles options. Check “Color Overlay” to open that menu. Click on the little color box (by default it’s red in my version of …

Journaling Café: Christmas Lights

Christmas is the season of lights: candle light, twinkle lights, illuminated decorations – we’ve certainly found our way to counter the gloom of winter and brighten up this darkest time of the year. Today’s journaling prompts, therefore, are all about the Christmas lights that bring hope and joy into our hearts and homes: With all the business of preparing for the holidays, I hope you’ll still find time to think about a few of these prompts, and maybe they’ll even inspire you to recall some of your favorite memories of the past. In any way, happy story telling, and don’t get so busy that you don’t have the time to stop and be merry and bright for a moment each day throughout the season! The font used here is my own handwriting font DJB Squirrels In My Pants by Darcy Baldwin (available at the Sweetshoppe).

Treasure Sunday: December 11th

Went treasure hunting again, and look at the gems I found today … Family by suezeeq12 What a pretty page to start off with. I fell in love with the muted colors, the pops of green, and the pretty composition. Most outstanding of all, of course, is the photo, and I love the editing she did with it, too!   Famous Last Words by donna goar The next page has such a fun and light feel to it. That snowman is too cute, and I love all the swirls, the bright colors, and the fun artistic twist of this page.   Ruel and Papi by Kitty Staying on the light side of things. Even though my next pick is a rather simple page, I kept coming back to it. I love the few accents she used to embellish this page. For example, did you notice the two letters in the left corner of the cluster. And, of course, needless to say that the photo is wonderful.   Snowflake Lights by vixen Another one of the species …

December Daily – Week 2 Recap

Another week has passed, which means I have a whole new set of December Daily pages ready to present to you.   (This page was featured at Logyourmemory.com earlier this week!) Being well into the project now, I have to say that I still don’t feel overwhelmed at all trying to catch up. Having prepared that foundation page, and given some thoughts to how to tackle it before I started, really helps me now to stay on top of everything. It’s an easy project, and I look forward to scrapping a new day every single time. On to another week …   PS.  All images are linked to the gallery for credits. PPS. You can find my Week 1 Recap HERE.

Freebie Friday: Taking Another Break

Can you tell that I’ve been busy with real life lately? I hardly have time to catch up with all my blogging. So, I decided to give myself another break again this week. But that doesn’t mean you have to be disappointed. Let me remind you that over at SSD you can pick a new free template every day throughout the month of December. So that should give you plenty of templates to work with! And if that isn’t good news enough already, I’ve got something to top it! SSD also has a retirement sale going on till Dec. 24th. Hundreds of products are for sale at half price (that’s 50% off!!!), so make sure you stop over there for your share of scrappy goodness! Anyways, winter break is around the corner, which means very soon I’ll have more time to create my own freebies for you again. So stay posted!

P2D: Christmas Cheer

I decided to switch things up a bit. Since I’m posting my December Daily project every Saturday (during December), I’m going to share another paper to digi project with you today. I found this paper layout a while back: Basically, I love everything about this page. So I wanted to try my hand on it digitally. I loved all the tags, the scattered elements, and the journaling around the center piece. So, I went ahead, and created my own page, using various tags and tag-overlays and what not, and here’s how it turned out: If you haven’t tried your hand at P2D yet, I highly recommend it! It’s just a whole lot of fun!
