Christmas in Strasbourg
Weihnachtliches Straßburg We wanted to make a quick trip to France, and Strasbourg is always a good choice. Of course, we had to travel a little through the Black Forest, which was amazing because the weather was fantastic, and the view absolutely stunning. We were able to see all the way to Swizzerland, and the Alps, and to France. Wir wollten einen schnellen Trip nach Frankreich unternehmen und Straßburg ist da am Naheliegendsten. Dazu mussten wir dann aber erst einmal durch den Schwarzwald, eine ganz lohnenswerte Tour. Denn das Wetter war fantastisch und die Sicht herausragend. Wir konnten sogar die Alpen sehen und Frankreich. In Strasbourg we realized the city is worth a visit during Christmas season. We loved walking through the alleys and looking at all the store fronts, which have all these fun embellishments. In Straßburg mussten wir erkennen, dass die Stadt eine Besuch zur Weihnachtszeit absolut wert ist. Die Häuserfronten sind alle so hübsch weihnachtlich herausgeputzt – es ist eine wahre Augenweide.

Burg Hohenzollern It’s still Christmas in Germany, and we went to see one of the most famous castles of the country: Hohenzollern. In Deutschland ist es ja noch Weihnachten, und wir haben den Tag genutzt, eine der berühmtesten Burgen des Landes zu besuchen: Hohenzollern.

Merry Christmas from the Black Forest
Frohe Weihnachten aus dem Schwarzwald Just a quick stop to wish everyone a merry Christmas, and to share a little about my Christmas Eve in the Black Forest, where we visited the bonfire action in Altensteig. Nur mal schnell hereingeschaut, um allen frohe Weihnachten zu wünschen, und euch ein bisschen was von meinem Heiligen Abend zu zeigen, wo es in Altensteig ein paar große Lagerfeuer gab.
Christmas Market Würzburg
Weihnachtsmarkt Würzburg I can’t imagine Christmas in Germany without Christmas markets. This time we got to go to the one in Würzburg, and now I’m ready to share all the little things we discovered. Was ist die Weihnachtszeit ohne Weihnachtsmarkt? Diesmal sind wir auf dem Würzburger Weihnachtsmarkt gelandet, und nun ist es soweit, dass ich mit euch auf Entdeckungsreise gehen kann, um euch all die Dinge zu zeigen, die mir unter die Linse gekommen sind: And by the way, if you’re lucky enough to be able to go to one, I highly recommend you to try some of the snacks they offer there: roasted almonds in many variations; hot wine; crepes offered in lots of different flavors, often both, sweet and savory. Und wenn ihr das Glück habt, auf einen Weihnachtsmarkt gehen zu können, dann empfehle ich euch, ein paar der Naschereien auszuprobieren: gebrannte Mandeln in vielen Variationen, Glühwein, süße oder herzhafte Crepes.
… And Peace on Earth
… und Friede auf Erden Check out the Christmas card I got the other day. At first glance it looks like a pretty good Christmas card – lovely design, nice wish. Until you get to the bottom part of it, the small print. What fighting has to do with peace on earth and the Christmas spirit quite eludes me. Fortunately, this wasn’t the only Christmas card for me. Seht mal die Weihnachtskarte, die ich kürzlich bekommen habe. Auf den ersten Blick sieht sie wie eine ziemlich gute Weihnachtskarte aus. Erst als ich ganz unten das Kleingedruckte sah, musste ich stutzen. Denn ehrlich gesagt, was Kämpfen mit Friede auf Erden und Weihnachtsstimmung zu tun hat ist mir ein Rätsel. (Übersetzung: Kämpfe für das, was dir wichtig ist. Es lohnt sich.) Zum Glück war das nicht meine einzige Weihnachtskarte.
That’s the Spirit
So geht’s doch … Since it’s almost Christmas, and since Christmas is the season of peace, love, and happiness, I thought I’d delight you with another one of my colleague’s/friend’s little notes. And he’s right. With exams and all, we definitely can use a little cheer! Da es schon fast Weihnachten ist, und da Weihnachten die Zeit der Liebe, des Friedens, und des Frohsinns ist, dachte ich, ich erfreue euch wieder mal mit einer weiteren kleinen Textnachrichten eines Freundes/Kollegen von mir. Und er hat ja recht: Mit den Prüfungen und allem, können wir wirklich jede Aufmunterung gebrauchen!
Oh Happy (Pollution) Day
Oh du fröhliche, oh du selige (umweltverschmutzte) Weihnachtszeit … Still alive. And still breathing in that hazardous air. But hey, with Christmas almost at hand, we have every reason to be of good cheer. And of course, thanks to my very cherished colleagues, there’s always another reason for yet a little more Christmas cheer! Bin Noch am Leben. Und wir atmen auch immer noch die giftige Luft ein. Aber hey! Mit Weihnachten so vor der Tür haben wir doch allen Grund für ein bisschen Weihnachtsfreude. Vor allem, wenn uns die lieben Kollegen so eifrig aufheitern.
