English It’s really happening! We’re on holiday, and for the first time in pretty much a year students are allowed to leave campus and come back. What once was a normal, everyday event has become something worth celebrating. Of course, as teachers who live on campus, we enjoy when the campus gets less crowded, and places like dining halls aren’t overrun during main meal times. Deutsch Es ist wahr! Wir haben Ferien, und die Studenten dürfen den Campus verlassen. Zum ersten Mal in fast einem Jahr. Was einst Alltag war ist heute ein Grund zum Feiern geworden. Als Fakultät, die auf dem Campus lebt, genießen wir natürlich die Tage, an denen der Campus und die Mensas weniger überlaufen sind.

EnglishSo, I told you not too long ago, how the mailing system changed again. Not only have new places been opened for the package pick-up stations (that need to be found), but processes have also been automated. Automated, however, means you have to figure out how this works. As I kept forgetting how to use the new system with various apps, I just did the lazy thing, and always carried my packages to the counter, to have someone scan and process it. But just the other day I took a huge leap forward and managed to get my package processed all on my own! There was a new ability to be proud of! EnglishIt’s happening! The upcoming holiday is really happening. For the longest time, none of us knew whether we’d be having a holiday at all, and if yes, whether there’d be the much disliked makeup days (where we get a holiday, but then those days need to be made up on a Saturday and Sunday), or what was going to happen at all. But yesterday, we finally got the good news: The holiday is happening. And not only that. But there will be no makeup days. And not only that, but students are allowed to leave campus these days and come back. So, that’s why you can see long lines forming these days – of students preparing to leave campus for the holiday. EnglishMeet our school’s newest invention: the mail car. These vehicles now busily drive around campus, delivering mail to students who are willing to spend the extra cents to avoid having to go to the mailing stations. Instead, the car brings them the mail to where they request it. DeutschDarf ich vorstellen? Die letzte Neuheit bei uns auf dem Campus: Das Postauto. Diese Gefährte sind jetzt überall auf dem Campus unterwegs, und liefern Post an diejenigen, die bereit sind, ein paar Cent extra zu bezahlen, um sich den Gang zur Poststation zu sparen. EnglishEven though it’s the end of September, you have to look hard to find signs of autumn. And that even though the locals consider this time of year very much autumn. For me, who comes from a much cooler climate that’s a bit funny. As these days still feel very much like July or August where I come from – sunny days, evenings that still barely scratch the mark where sweaters are necessary. The only difference: These days it doesn’t stay sweltering hot anymore. Though the temperature barely falls below what we consider cool. EnglishWhat a lovely day, I thought as I walked home from class today. Blue skies – a perfect September day. Most classroom buildings on campus have tiny windows that are usually obstructed by other structures, so there’s little to experience of the glorious days passing outside.
