Weather the Storms

130419-IMG_7795This year’s sports days are on the rough side of things. Yesterday, we got quite the storm blowing over us, and today, it’s been rainy. Poor freshman students who are required to participate in all events, either as athletes, or as part of the audience. My advice to my freshman students earlier this week therefore was: dress warm and take something to keep you from being all too bored for two whole days with you (a good book will always do, in my opinion).

Going for Gold

130418-IMG_7779Sports day is always an important event at every university in this part of the world. My contribution to sports day is that I stand in the crowds watching the great parade of school representatives marching into the stadium, and then I usually try to catch an extra hour of tennis myself (since for once the courts aren’t taken up with classes). At any rate, as much as I love being in class with my students, I don’t mind getting an extra day off work, and getting to spend that time with a racket and a ball. It’s sports day after all …

Hybrid Hub: Family Moments

A while ago, I’ve started working on a new hybrid photo book. And today, it’s about time to share my first double page with you:

PB-Summer-2012-IMG_7796V2

I used Traci Reed’s & Melissa Bennett’s digital kit “Love Makes the World Go Round” for pretty much everything on this double page spread.

First, I created a  digital version of the pages, transferred everything onto blank sheets of paper the size my printer can handle, printed everything, cut, and assembled.

The Blessings and Curses of a Washing Machine

130417-IMG_7749

Yes, I’m aware that I’m more blessed than other people around me. At least in some areas.

Take, for example, the fact that I have my own washing machine. Yes, while you may wonder what’s so special about owning a washing machine, I can assure you that around here, I’m rather an exception, being – as I am – the happy owner of my own little laundry wonder. Well, except when my laundry dream turns into a nightmare, which happens to be the case whenever I forget something very essential. One of the essentials when it comes to doing my laundry is that I should never, NEVER forget to put the hose in the drain – or else, much more than just my clothes will get a thorough wash. The other day, however, that great essential just simply slipped my mind, and that’s when my whole bathroom experienced the blessing of a good wash.

I guess, the good news of it is that now my bathroom floors have gotten a little rinse even in those places that usually never see water.
