End of a Holiday | Ferienende
English The holidays are over, and that means the students are coming back. This also means, it gets really crowded at the gate, and the traffic gets a little crazy. Lucky for us campus residents – we usually don’t need the extra scanning of codes, because our information is stored with the facial recognition used at the gate. Or I guess, it depends whether you think such scrutiny and automated processes are lucky. Deutsch Die Ferien sind vorbei, und das heißt die Studenten kommen zurück. Es bedeutet auch, dass es am Tor ein wenig überalufen wird. Zum Glück für uns Campusbewohner brauchen wir keine Codes mehr scannen, da unsere Infos alle mit der Gesichtserkennung registriert sind. Oder ich nehme an, dass das mit der Glückssache eher eine Ansichtssache ist – da alle Daten automatisch abrufbar sind.

Suddenly Fall | Plötzlich Herbst
English Suddenly it has turned fall. Where last week we were still groaning under summer’s heat, these days it’s all sweaters and winter coats. That’s one of the things I still have to get used to living here – even after all these years: How there is usually little transition time of the weather slowly turning. It’s hot, and then it’s cold. And then it’s hot again. There seems to be no middle ground. Deutsch Plötzlich ist es Herbst geworden. Wo wir letzte Woche noch unter der sommerlichen Hitze gestöhnt haben, müssen wir nun unsere Pullover und Winterkleidung hervorkramen. Das ist eines der Dinge, an die ich mich in all den Jahren noch nicht wirklich gewöhnt habe: Dass es keinen Übergang im Wetter gibt. Es ist heiß. Dann ist es kalt. Und dann ist es wieder heiß. Eine goldene Mitte scheint es nicht zu geben. Dafür verspricht das Wetter einen goldenen Oktober. (Oder wahrscheinlich eher November, wie es hier normal ist.)

Anleitung für akkurates Drucken & Schneiden in Silhouette Studio Anzeige (Enthält Produktempfehlung) / Advertisement (Contains product endorsement) While I love my Silhouette Cameo, have made good use of it over the years, and even more of Silhouette Studio, there are a number of things that always bugged me when it comes to using the native print & cut feature in Silhouette: The much smaller printable and cuttable area in this setting (compared with the print and cut margins that are generally available in Silhouette Studio). It requires the user to waste much of the paper (esp. when we’re using special, more expensive kind of papers and cardstock for printing). How inaccurate the cuts often turn out, in spite of using the suggested registration marks. There seems to be no real guarantee that the Silhouette blade will cut exactly along the design on the page. On Holiday | Ferienzeit
English It’s really happening! We’re on holiday, and for the first time in pretty much a year students are allowed to leave campus and come back. What once was a normal, everyday event has become something worth celebrating. Of course, as teachers who live on campus, we enjoy when the campus gets less crowded, and places like dining halls aren’t overrun during main meal times. Deutsch Es ist wahr! Wir haben Ferien, und die Studenten dürfen den Campus verlassen. Zum ersten Mal in fast einem Jahr. Was einst Alltag war ist heute ein Grund zum Feiern geworden. Als Fakultät, die auf dem Campus lebt, genießen wir natürlich die Tage, an denen der Campus und die Mensas weniger überlaufen sind.
