Monday Highlight: Tiebreak

I’m excited to introduce you to a product of a different kind for once: Tiebreak by Erica Zwart With my other passion (besides scrapping & photography, etc.) being tennis, this kit was a must-have for me, as soon as I saw a page using it in the gallery standouts (GSO). And I even managed to get it for half-price (though I don’t know how that happened). I love the graphic feel of this kit that comes with lots of brushes, some word-art, but also the obligatory tennis rackets and a fun assortment of papers. With the other older tennis kit I have, I can finally scrap more of my many tennis photos. Here’s some inspiration, using this kit: For this page (above) – I must admit – I nearly copied a layout that was done by a CT member of Erica’s for this release – that’s how much I loved the design. Here’s a page, using more of my own ideas and creativity. I just love what you can do with this. And just today, …

One Year Ago: Our Travels in China

Today, exactly one year ago, my parents arrived in Shanghai for their first visit to China, and since at the time I didn’t have a blog to share about our experiences yet, I thought today would be a good opportunity to share some of the highlights of that trip. Day 1: Arrival in Shanghai I’m flying to Shanghai to meet my parents at the airport, and then we take the transrapid (highspeed train) into the city. Traveling up to 450 km/h (280 m/h).   Day 2: EXPO 2010 Getting up early, because we have one goal: The EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.   My parents want to visit the Africa exhibition, and then we check out Iceland, Norway, Canada, Holland, Finland, the Caribbean Islands, and of course Germany. Trying not to be biased here, but I have to say that the German pavilion indeed was the highlight of the day (even was awarded the best pavilion officially at the end of the EXPO). Also, word of the wise: Always check out, whether citizens of the respective …

Treasure Sunday September 18th

Alright, ladies (and gents?), I went on another quest to add more treasures to my chest, and you know what? Instead of one gem, I found that there are so many jewels just lying around in the galleries, I’d better pick up a couple more. I’ll get to fill my ever growing chest of treasures, and you the benefits of me sharing them with you ;-). So, here goes … Best Memory by Jippo I came across this page the other day when searching the gallery over at 2 Peas for some inspiration, and instantly was captured by this page: I love the clean design, that strip down across the page, the scattered flowers, the ribbon with the date element, and most of all the photo. So pretty! So Sweet by Lilas What a sweet page. I love the colors here, the composition, the bits of journaling she scattered over the page, and yet again, the photo is most adorable. And I especially like the photo treatment that works so well with this page. Take …

P2D Inspiration: Sisters

I’ve decided to take a different route today. Instead of the usual CT spotlight, I’m going to share a little paper to digi (P2D) inspiration. For those of you who are clueless, P2D simply means, you find a layout that has been created through the traditional means of scrapping (paper and glue, etc.), scraplift it and turn it into a digital layout. Anyone who knows my scrapping style, will also know that most of all I love variety. So, recently I’ve been exploring the vast field of traditional scrapbooking and the possibilities you can find there for you digital layouts. I’ll be sharing some more inspirational galleries of some individuals in the future, but today I simply want to show you a traditional scrapbooking page, and what it looked like when I turned it into a digital layout. Here’s “Happy?” by Sophie Crespy: I loved the composition of this page, and how she pegged the photos plus some elements. So, I wanted to try my hand at this, doing it digitally, and here is the …

Saturday Feature: Driving Me Crazy

China is a noisy place. I learned that very soon after I got here. It’s something you just have to get used to. But sometimes the noise just drives me crazy. Like the other day when they opened up a new store somewhere across the street (at least I assume that this is what was going on, because they love to turn up the volume especially on such occasions). In any case, the noise (for it was more than music) that came into my home from the outside was louder than the volume of the music I listen to at home. As a matter of fact, I tried to turn on some of my own music just to drown out that nerve wrecking whoomm whoomm from the outside, but it was a hopeless case. I could hardly hear my own music, and I had the volume already up more than usual! Worst of all, the music outside was so loud that it constantly had the alarms of the cars that were parked around go off. …

Freebie Friday: Sweet

Off to the next round of free templates! This one is all about sweets and treats, and I created this template based on a page that features the new release of Libby Pritchett & Shawna Clingerman: Rainbow Trails. I’m curious to see what you guys come up with, using this template. Talking about curiosity: I found a page based on my template #29 “Now,” and I thought it turned out quite well, so that I’d like to share it here with you: “Laugh” by tconlan And since I’ve been sharing already, how about one more? Myscrapbookart.com just released their latest newsletter, and it contains a great freebie by SSD designer Dani Mogstad. Here’s the preview: You like it? Then make sure you’re signed up for the newsletter at MSA so you can download it for free! Well, that’s it for today. As always: Happy Friday, scrappers! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit …

Busy Campus

Our campus has gotten busy again. Hardly a day goes by without any special activities going on at the main square of our campus. The other day ran into one. Couldn’t quite figure out what exactly it was about, but it had something to do with bottles. They’d set up lots of tables and students were sitting and painting bottles obviously enjoying the task. I think, I like our campus when it’s a little more quiet!

Hybrid Hub: This Is Me

So far, I’ve always done cards for the hybrid hub. But today, I have a specialty. Not too long ago, I actually sat down to create a hybrid layout, and it was so much fun seeing the project come together and unfold in front of my eyes. I had decided to do a hybrid page for my students. They would have no clue otherwise, if I just told them that one of my favorite hobbies is digital scrapbooking. So I thought, if I created a page that I can take to class with me and actually show them, they would understand immediately what scrapbooking is. Hence, I chose the topic to be some introduction to myself. Of course, being in China, I can’t just go to the next craft store to pick up some pretty flowers and other kind of embellishments – there simply are no such craft stores around. So I have to make-do with printing everything that goes on a page, and be content with that. This page, by the way, was actually …
