CT Spotlight (03/05)

I got a ton of new products to show off again for you: Libby designed a fun new kit: Charles Edward Limburger. Cindy keeps whirling around with ever new ideas for gorgeous layouts (she has four new template packs out this weekend). Darcy wants to introduce “Lucy-Lu,” and was really “Inspired by Giseli” (templates). Stephanie has a new grab bag out in her store (or you can get each item individually, if you want). Here are a couple of pages with some of the products mentioned above:

Freebie Friday: Birthday

Alright, friends, we are in the process of switching servers for my website, which is why it’s been taking so long for me to get the link fixed. But it’s working now. Just keep in mind that the move hasn’t been completed, yet. So, if things don’t work well, I hope you’ll be a little patient with me. Hopefully everything will go smoothly, and there won’t be any glitch in the system. So, after trying so hard to get you the template on time (squeezing it into a busy day between getting my CT pages done, various appointments, figuring out what had happened to my Photoshop when it just wouldn’t let me create the layers for this template as I usually do, and not being able to upload the file to my webspace, because of the move), here it finally is: As always: I love to see what you do with these templates, so please hook me up to your gallery uploads (you can do that by leaving a comment here). By the way, you …

Fun with Chinglish: Fall Love

From my notebook: If you fall love when you lonely … Now, are they trying to say: If you fall in love, then you are lonely … or: Fall in love, when you are lonely … I guess, that’s called freedom of interpretation: you have the choice! Note: When posting anything in the Fun with Chinglish section, I don’t mean to show disrespect towards anything or anyone in any way. I’m simply sharing the fun we get to have with all those great signs!

Around Town: Campus 2

You may remember that a little more than a month ago, I posted a photo of one of the main roads of our campus during the winter holiday: it was completely deserted. That prospect now, however, has completely vanished. Ever since school started again about two weeks ago, our campus as been buzzing with students wherever you turn. The photo you can see here shows our main shopping road at a time when it actually wasn’t busy at all. This place often can get a lot more crowded!

Inspire Me: Patti

It’s Inspiration-Wednesday, and that means, I’m about to bring you some fresh inspiration from the galleries. I always love to check out other people’s galleries, because it always gives me some fresh ideas for my own pages. One such inspiring scrapper for me is Patti (as she is known in the digi-world). Her gallery is full of amazing layouts, featuring gorgeous cluster-work and a great feel for how to work with brushes. If you haven’t known about her yet, it might be worth checking out her gallery. Who knows what inspiration you might find?

Food Corner: Chicken Pizza

Wednesday nights is pizza-night in the foreign faculty dining hall. Two kinds of pizza are usually served, one of which is chicken pizza. It doesn’t come with any tomato sauce as base – which isn’t unusual around here, as there are various kinds of pizza that are served without the red sauce. The chicken pizza, however, comes with a generous layer of cheese on top, which makes it my favored one of the two on Wednesday night.

Behind the Scenes: Handwriting Fonts

A while ago I started talking about fonts. While back then we covered a little about typewriter fonts, today I’d like to share some insight into handwriting fonts. After all, we create scrapbook pages in order to keep our memories, which means journaling is part of the process. Also, we like for our layouts to look as close to the real deal as possible, and what better way to achieve that look than by adding some handwritten sentiments to the page? Let me take it even a little further – what better way to journal our memories and thoughts than to use our very own handwriting? Now, there are lots of handwriting fonts out. Some for free, others need to be purchased. Again, a great source for some fun and interesting handwriting fonts is dafont. But I’ve also found other handwriting fonts at other websites by simply googling the search term “download free handwriting fonts.” Some of my favorite handwriting fonts are: But of course, there are many more fonts that would look great on …

Places to Go: The Bund (Shanghai)

Probably the most famous tourist destination of Shanghai is The Bund. The term refers to the stretch of embanked riverfront in the center of the city. When you see pictures of Shanghai, they’ll most likely show The Bund, or at least parts of it. The Bund typically refers to a section of buildings and quays along the western bank of the Huangpu River. Here you can find many historical buildings which date back to the time period when the British Empire was at the height of its expansion. Later, the area became the “International Settlement”, after the British and American settlements were joined. At the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, the Bund became a major financial center in East Asia. Today, major international financial institutions can be found in the area, along with exclusive hotels, modern shopping malls, and  other establishments. Tourists can stroll along the embankment to enjoy the sights, or even cross the river on one of the ferries, for an even better view of the Bund.
