Monday Highlight: SSD Quarterly Assortment

I’m sure, those of you who stopped by my little digiscrap corner last week were in for some disappointment, since there wasn’t much happening at all this past week. Can you tell that school has started, and I got a little busier than than the last two months? On top of that, ever since everyone got back to school the internet has gotten really bad here, so that trying to post something takes a lot of extra efforts. But I’m trying my best, and am back on track for this week (have you checked the new template freebie, yet, it’s up now), so, today I want to tell you about the Sweetshoppe Quarterly Assortments. Four times a year the SSD designers release a flood of papers and elements, all neatly packaged into some pretty little mini-kit collection they call the Quarterly Assortment. It’s true, each kit only comes with a few papers (most of them highly patterned) and a couple of elements. In my eyes, the QA still is a great deal, however, since we …

Snow, yet again!

With the weather starting to be somewhat friendly last week, I really thought we were through with the worst of it. But today I have to realize, I have been wrong. Never since coming to China, have we had snow this late in the year. Yet, today it’s happening. And the surprising thing is, it’s even staying on the ground, though not much! Still, as there’s no hope of getting a lot of snow this time a year, I’d really much rather like for spring to come!

Treasure Sunday: Little Miss Shopaholic

A couple of days I stumbled upon a gem over at the Sweetshoppe blog. It immediately caught my eye, and since Aggie has been one of my favorite scrappers for a long time, and she has an awesome gallery, it’s about time that I picked one of her pages. “Little Miss Shopaholic” by Aggie Aviso First of all, it’s her composition that is a feast for the eye. I love her choice of papers, colors, elements, and how everything is placed on the page so perfectly – all the little clusters, pieces of wordart, and isn’t the little banner at the top just the cutest?

Saturday Feature: Notebooks

School has started again, and since the faculty didn’t get a new calendar from the school (as in the last years), I decided, I need to have a calendar, so I can keep track of my appointments and projects. Now, everyone who lives in China knows that going to any stationary store (or even supermarket for that matter), you can get notebooks of all shapes and sizes, and in any fashion you could imagine. However, the ones I would call “cute” probably make up the vast majority of them. Hence, last Monday, I went into the stationary store across the street, fully intent on wanting to get myself a new calendar/notebook. But alas! The choices! Flipping through the various calendar/journal type notebooks, I quickly came to realize however, that the calendar type notebooks are quite different from what I had expected, and whether they are that useful is a judgment everyone will have to make on their own. Certain things I did realize though: Notebooks usually come with many pictures, doodles, graphics, etc. Some of …

Freebie Friday: Empty

Since all the students are back on campus, I thought I’d scrap about how the campus can be so very empty, sometimes. And now, I have another freebie for you, based on that page. As always, the invitation is open for you to come back and leave a comment with a link to your gallery, so I can check out your finished layout. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy this template! Note: Please don’t re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops Designs.

Fun with Chinglish: Sunshine Restaur

This is supposed to be German, but it’s neither German, nor English, really! (If you can’t make out the picture clearly, it says “Sunshine Restaur.”) Note: When posting anything in the Fun with Chinglish section, I don’t mean to show disrespect towards anything or anyone in any way. I’m simply sharing the fun we get to have with all those great signs!

Enable Me: Photo Actions by The Pioneer Woman

Most scrapbook pages can’t go without a photo, so scrappers like us always are looking for ways how to make our pictures shine on a page. Photo editing is a vital part of digital scrapbooking, so today I have another helpful resource for you. The Pioneer Woman. Ree Drummond, who runs that website, also has a category “Photography” on her homepage, where she offers some awesome sets of free photo actions. You will also find lots of other inspiration on The Pioneer Woman, photography related, Photoshop related, or just everyday life related. If you haven’t known about The Pioneer Woman yet, you should go and take a look!

Food Corner: Fried Beans

Fried beans are a very common dish around here. Fried in oil, they come with or without sesame seeds, and will be served either cold or hot. Depending on how much of the spicy peppers are added, they can be quite spicy, too, but usually they are not very hot. In many restaurants, they are part of the menu for cold dishes, and usually will be served early on during the meal.
