CT Spotlight (02/12)

Exciting news as our designers have been busy as ever trying to bring us some new great products. Darcy came out with an awesome mega pack of 8 childlike fonts. Libby whipped up some krafty background papers and another pack of her famous paper clips. Cindy created two gorgeous single templates that will help scrapping your Valentine’s pages in no time, and Stephanie (Nanie’s Designs) isn’t slowing down a bit to offer more templates and even an alpha template this week. And here are the pages I came up with using some of the products:

Freebie Friday: With Love

So, I have been quite busy this week with some out-of-the-ordinary stuff going on, hence there was no time to get you another template. But I don’t want you to be all disappointed, so I’ll hook you up with Darcy Baldwin’s little Valentine’s gift. You can find it on her blog. I hope you’ll enjoy it, and then next week things should be back to normal, I hope! Have a great weekend everyone!

Fun with Chinglish: Ginglish

How about Ginglish for a change? This is neither German, nor English, nor is it Chinese! Note: When posting anything in the Fun with Chinglish section, I don’t mean to show disrespect towards anything or anyone in any way. I’m simply sharing the fun we get to have with all those great signs!

Around town: Snow!

It snowed! Yes! Finally, our world has turned white, too! It usually turns dirty rather soon, with all the coal that’s burnt all around. But at least for now I’m happy. Not, only do I love the snow, but it also is the first time in months that we’ve had anything wet coming down from the sky! With some of my colleagues, we were even arguing the other day, whether it was September or October that it rained last – as none of us clearly remembers anymore. But no matter who is right or not, the fact is – there hasn’t been any precipitation (that’s Niederschlag, for my German friends, lol) since the fall of last year. So having snow now – I’m sure – makes almost everyone here happy!

Enable Me: Journaling

Let’s talk about journaling today. It’s something that all of us scrappers have to deal with at some point, and I know, many of us are struggling to make our journaling meaningful. Me for one! I’m a member of a font designer’s CT (Darcy Baldwin, for those of you who know her), and just the other day, I had been wondering – how can I make her fonts shine more on my pages? In other words, how can my journaling become more center stage on my pages? A big question, but there is hope in sight! Lot’s of great journaling prompts can be found on the web, and though many of them are not even meant for scrappers, we certainly can take the inspiration and turn them into something useful for our pages. And then there are those great scrapbook journaling prompts. I stumbled over one great inspirational blog last week, when I was listening to the paperclipping digishow (published for The Digi Files). One of the guests in that show was Sara Gleason. Now, …

Food Corner: Egg & Tomato

One very popular dish around here is egg and tomato. It’s easy to make, and therefore very common in everyday cooking. The foreign faculty gets served egg and tomato several times a week. Basically, you take a couple of eggs and scramble them, but only so that they are just done (almost hardly done). Then you set them aside and take a couple of diced tomatoes that you fry in the same pan. Once they’re softened enough, you add the eggs again, and fry everything together for another moment. For seasoning you add salt and powder for chicken broth (very popular around here). That’s it. It’s something even I could pull off, and I can’t cook much Chinese at all.

Behind the Scenes: The Rule of Thirds

One of the most basic rules for photography is the Rule of Thirds. It works quite simple, but can improve your image dramatically, when it comes to proper balance in your composition. The Rule of Thirds also can be applied generally in graphic  design, which makes it quite a useful guideline for us scrappers as well. Now, keep in mind that when I use the terms, “rule” and “guideline” it doesn’t mean these rules are set in stone. Maybe the most important rule in graphic design is that “rules are meant to be broken!” So, when talking about the Rule of Thirds today, I’m not saying all your pages have to abide by this guideline from this day forward. It is meant as a tool, helping you to get better results when taking a photo, or putting your page together. But you may just as well ignore this rule, and still create a great scrapbook layout! Still, as it is a rather useful tool, in our tutorial today, we are going to look at How …
