Eine Siegerlandreise It used to be my home before we moved on. And it used to be quite dear to my heart – Siegerland. So, quite naturally, I’m always happy when an opportunity arises for me to go back there and visit with family, friends and the beautiful hills and forests in that part of Germany.

Schwarzwaldmädel I kind of grew up with the Black Forest Girls: the traditional costumes of ladies from the Black Forest. Though I never met them in person, the dolls wearing such costumes were coveted souvenirs my sister and I were eager to get when my grandma came back from a visit to the Black Forest once. They were delicate little things those dolls, not anything to really play with – they were souvenirs after all – but I can’t even imagine my childhood without them. Now, the other day, I got treated to a very special experience: my sister and I got to wear a mock-up of those special hats ourselves and have some fun with them.

Abenteuer im Schwarzwald My sister invited me on an adventure tour, right into the heart of the Black Forest. There’s a road called Black Forest Highway (though it’s nothing like the German Autobahn), but right off the “Highway” is a little trail called “Lotharpfad”. And that’s where sister took me to show off the beauties of the Black Forest. And even though the trail isn’t supposed to be accessed in wintery weather, it’s in wintery weather when it’s especially beautiful, as you can see here for yourselves.

How about a little story for those among my readers who love adventures? It goes like this: Once upon a time there were two sisters. One day they said to each other, “Let’s go to Neuschanstein (Germany’s most famous tourist destination).” It was a cold winter day and a few days earlier it had snowed. When they arrived at their destination, they noticed that due to the snow many things were different than usual – some roads had been blocked. But when they saw how many other visitors set out on an arduous and quite dangerous quest of seeing the castle in its greatest splendor, they took courage. Bravely, they climbed over the barricades and soon found themselves on a road, which had a snow cover that had been trampled by many feet and which had turned into one long stretch of slippery ice. But such dangers could not deter the sisters. They clawed their way along the mountains slopes up the winding road and …
Reisetagebuch: Eine Wochenendreise – 3. Tag The third day of our little weekend trip has come and gone, and guess what we did today. Surprise! More shopping! Yes, well, if you live hidden away, far out in the sticks, like we do, you gotta grab that chance and make most of what you can when going on an errand trip to the big city! And so we found our way to a very crowded IKEA this time, and it’s where I decided to fill up that empty suitcase I had lugged along extra for the purpose of making the trip worth while. And it’s at IKEA where I almost had a heart attack! Because – oh broken heart of mine – they had a Christmas market there. A nice little Christmas market. (Did I ever tell you that Christmas is my favorite time of year? Well, here you have it!) To top things, that Christmas market was all set up nicely with pretty little things that are to be found nowhere else in this …
Reisetagebuch: Eine Wochenendreise – 2. Tag We’re still out and about traveling, though doing our best not to become like the average tourist. Thus, our day was filled with errands like an embassy appointment, shopping, meeting friends, and some little extra treats, like the Cold Stone ice cream we had after lunch. Yum! Lecker! Hier ist unser Tag in Bildern:
