Traveler’s Notebook Layout: Snow Melt

Anzeige (Enthält Produktempfehlung) / Advertisement (Contains product endorsement) EnglishThis is the last page of my traveler’s notebook album Winter 2022, using the paper pack “Winter Forest.” For this one I used the same rectangle die cut four times and arranged the same-sized papers in such a way that they all would be visible somehow. Behind it all I placed a die cut circle and another paper strip, and the wintery word strips that I’ve been using. These word strips will soon become available as freebie. For the title, I used two different patterned papers and one of my die cut sets. And I cut another scenery from one of the papers to go with the title. Calendar 2017 – Part 1

2017 Kalender – Teil 1 A couple of weeks ago, Cindy Schneider released another set of calendar templates, which are so fun to work with. What’s great with her calendar templates is that they come in both Sun-Sat, and Mon-Sun, which is what I needed. I’m going to have these printed on A4 size as give-away, and modifying Cindy’s templates for that was so easy. It only took me a few sessions to whip up and complete the entire calendar. Some of the month titles, I created myself, which was super fun, too, and inspired me for some future freebie projects for you. But here’s a look at the first part of the calendar (all images are linked for product info): Vor ein paar Wochen hat Cindy Schneider neue Kalendervorlagen herausgebracht, und ich hatte richtig viel Spass damit. Damsels of the Castle

Die Burgfräulein To Meersburg Castle we went today. After seeing the castle from afar every time we passed through Meersburg, my sister finally insisted on going there and looking inside the place. And that’s what we did. We toured the castle and the grounds, looked at dungeons and torture chambers as well as the great hall, the kitchens and other facilities of a typical medieval castle. And we got to see the rooms in which one of Germany’s most renowned female poets, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff had lived and died. Auf die Meersburg gings heute. Nachdem wir die Burg schon von Ferne gesehen haben, jedes Mal, wenn wir nach Meersburg sind, hat Schwester darauf bestanden, dass es nun endlich mal auf Burgerkundung gehen sollte. Schneeglitzern I know there are some among you who can’t stand winter. It’s cold; you have to walk and drive carefully because the ground is slippery; and if you’re from Germany, you’ll have to get up earlier than normal to clear sidewalks from snow and make them safe etc. But whatever argument you might throw at me, you won’t convince me that winter is awful, because I simply love the snow, the beauty when everything is covered in white, and the snow is glistening in the sun. Had the color palette and the solid papers done for quite a while now, but then got busy with life. An Airport Tradition

It’s a tradition already. Every year, I take students and friends on a little bike trip to the airport. Of course, I have to explain to them – as none of them has ever traveled by plane – that going to the airport building (otherwise known as terminal) is far from exciting, and that the real adventure waits out there on one of the fields at the end of the runway. Unquestionably, they enjoy the little excursion immensely, and I? I get to have a sunburn (on a not sunny day – or does it look like the sun is out on the pictures?) and a lot of extra exercise. (And I had the benefit of getting my bike cleaned, after it had collected dust for several months over the winter). Starting out from the school gate. We’ve arrived. First glimpses. Waiting for the planes to come in. And there is one!

Today is the day when for the first time this winter I could go and play tennis without a scarf since it was nice and sunny outside. Today is the day when for the first time this winter I was overrun by people and balls at the tennis court – yes, the students are back! (But I also get to have someone to play with, which is fun!) Today is the day when the streets on campus are filled with students again, and most of the stores are open. Today is the day when the supermarket downstairs has piles of toilet paper set up in front of the entrance – yes, the students need to stock up on necessities. Today is the day when I decided that I’ll go and get a meal in one of the student cafeteria some time soon, and treat myself to a cup of caramel milk tea. Today is the day when I’m glad that life is back to normal again.

Snow Drama

I like snow. In fact, I’ve been waiting for some decent snow here for more than two years. Now, I’m fully aware that not everyone likes snow as much as I do (as some of my dear colleagues lovingly keep pointing out to me), but still: Snow is a fine thing. In my eyes at least. And when it started snowing these last couple of days, I was getting my hopes up: Maybe we’ll get a decent winter this year after all! But alas! While it was snowing these last couple of days, it wasn’t actually cold enough for those white little flakes to stick around. And then today as I was on my way to breakfast, I made an observation. Or rather, it was two observations that I made, to be a little more exact: Observation #1: It’s freezing cold outside! In fact, it’s so cold that all the puddles from the recent snowfall have been freezing, and even the ponds around campus have a beautiful layer of ice! See the proof here: …

Saturday Feature: Dust Bunnies

Spring is around the corner, and for many people in Germany that means it’s the time for the big spring-cleaning. I, on the other hand, gave up a long time ago, trying to compete against the dust bunnies that always seem to be so much faster than my ability to keep up with them – or should I say, get rid of them? It’s true. Where in Germany it takes two weeks for the dust to seriously collect on the furniture’s surfaces, here, all it takes is two days. I kid you not! It gets especially bad in the winter, and I was told that is because of all the coal being burned and the weather being so extremely dry. But even in the summer it can be just as frustrating. Especially for “balcony owners” such as me! One time, I cleaned up a glass table in the morning to sit outside and enjoy some morning sun. I left that table out all day, and when I went to take it in at night – …

One Year Ago

Today, exactly one year ago, I woke up to this! It had started to snow the day before, and in hopes of getting some pictures of the snow before all the students would play with it and mess up the peaceful scenery, I got up extra early to go for a walk on campus. Hardly ever do we get snow like this, and just as I had expected: only hours later the beauty of an untouched winter wonderland had faded, as thousands of students enjoyed some extra fun in the snow. One interesting observation I could make on that snowy day, last year: though all the students live within walking distance of their classrooms, still, no one thought of leaving their dorms earlier to make sure they’d be on time for class. After all, walking on slippery snow and ice takes longer than usual. But nobody seemed to bother that everyone was late, even though – with just a little bit of careful planning – everybody could have made it on time! Waking up this …
