Freebie Friday: A Grateful Heart, Part 5

I’m so excited it’s Friday again, and I’m excited for three very good reasons! Reason #1: Today I’m sharing with you the last part of my first ever digital scrapbook kit “A Grateful Heart,” which means you guys are finally gonna be able to use the whole kit to scrap with. Reason #2: It’s Christmas season and the holidays are only a few more weeks away. And because Christmas is the season of sharing joy and happiness more abundantly, I thought I’d do my share and spread a little extra joy myself. So, I’ve activated the links to older freebie templates again (sorry, should’ve told you much earlier, because I did it weeks ago and simply forgot to tell you about it …). So, if you’ve liked some of my templates in the past and missed to pick them up – now’s your chance to do so. Reason #3: I’ve completed my next (Christmas themed) scrapbook kit, and I’m excited to share a first glance of it here today. But first, here is the link …

Getting Ready for the Season

I’ve been busy as of late. Busy for many reasons. The biggest factor to blame in all of it is the season, of course. The Christmas season. But I can’t really blame it all too much, because (as you’ve probably been able to find out by now) I love Christmas, and everything that comes with it. So, yes, I’ve been busy. Busy decorating my home. Busy making presents to give to those I care for. Busy also, making cards for Christmas, which I’ll send to far far away lands, to people of my own kin and country! But in all the busyness, I’m mostly busy enjoying myself in this season – together with my friends and students. So, to everyone who cares I wish a happy merry Christmas season!

Happy Autumn Day

Yes, autumn has not quite left us yet, and so today, we decided to give it another shot and try playing in whatever capacity of leaves we may get. Remember those devious tree shakers I told you about last year, who always try to make chasing autumn leaves as little fun as possible? Anyhow, we found ourselves that favorite spot again, where chances of finding leaves are at least existent (though small), and where last year we’d had a blast with our autumn photo shoot. And it seemed like we were lucky yet once more. Of course, the wind found that place, too, and decided to share it generously with us and the dust it whirled around. But we didn’t care. We love leaves. And we love leaves in fall. And so we enjoyed a very happy autumn day!

Christmas Treats

Some say, buying Christmas treats in September is way too early. Generally, I agree. In fact, I used to think that starting to sell Christmas treats in September is outlandish, and definitely out of place (though “out of time” would fit a little better in this case). This year, however, I’m not so sure, I agree with this any longer. Truth be told, I’m happy to find that so much of the Christmas stuff is out already. Even bought myself a couple of Christmas treats already, and enjoyed them right away. Of course, why I’m so strange this year is for a good reason. Because come Christmas, I won’t be around to buy delicious Christmas treats any more, and whichever treats I can manage to bring in my luggage will be a very rare and special luxury. So, I decided, I’m gonna make as much of the opportunity as I can now! I’m gonna have all my favorite Christmas treats now, and I’ll indulge myself in them. What did I say the other day? …

The Difference Between a Chinese and a German Sunbath

Have you ever wondered what’s the difference between a German and a Chinese sunbath? I haven’t. But I got to find out nonetheless. These last couple of days as I was sitting out in the sun trying to work on assignments. I got to find out that enjoying a sunbath in China, it takes a whole day to get somewhat of a slight tan (usually; and I’d be the exception to sit out in the sun anyways, since most Chinese would avoid the sun as hell in order to maintain a light color of skin). In Germany, however, I’d be fried red as a lobster within the first two hours of sitting in the sun. So, note to self: stay out of the sun if you don’t like lobster fashion!

Stories from the Alps: The Art of Milking Cows

Our hike continued today, and it continued with several encounters of the special kind: cows. Ever since our last trip to Switzerland, my friend and Canadian squirrel imitator had set his mind on wanting to milk a Swiss cow, of which you usually can find plenty in the Alps. (Prior to our tour he even researched on youtube how to do that!) And today, the opportunity finally presented itself. Twice, in fact. The first time, however, my friend got sidetracked and went down exploring a riverbed, leaving me to watch our backpacks. So I used the opportunity to take some pictures. But when I turned around to get a snack from my backpack, I suddenly found myself face to face with big ol’ Miss cow-face. ‘No big deal,’ I thought, ‘as long as she keeps her snotty nose out of my stuff …’ But that wasn’t the intention of Miss snotty cow-face, because as soon as I started chewing on my cracker, she set her mind on chewing just the same – leaving me to …

Treasure Sunday: January 1st

Happy new year!!! Can you believe it’s 2012 already? Anyways, I have a  new set of gems to show off to you again today, and I hope you don’t mind if they seem to be a little “old”, since they’re from last year ;-).   The Bus by fonnetta I’m starting off the fingerpointing with this page which is all about waiting – for the school bus, that is! So full of bright colors and fun elements, this page also has a great composition, with the large photo that is perfectly complemented by the smaller photo and the journaling touches. It’s just so much fun to look at this page!   Remember It All by Natascha Next, I want to point to this page, which is another one that I just can’t take my eyes off because there’s so much to discover. With all the papers stacked on top of each other, it has a great composition as well, the colors make it all fun and bright, and all the little and big elements are …

The Christmas Aftermath

Christmas is over now, but since I’ve been blessed with more presents than usual this year, I’d like to share what I got with you. (After all, why should I keep all the joy of these Christmas presents just for myself?) Now, keep in mind that the one who got the presents was … Me (that’s a grown-up with a love for subdued colors, and a fully furnished apartment). And here goes the list … a little plush container for pens and pencils an apple candle an all pink picture frame some red and silver Christmas decoration striped socks with stocked with chocolate and pralines a colorful porcelain angel a rabbit with long hanging legs (decoration on a shelf) apples & oranges a wood boat that also is a lamp a handcrafted Christmas card more chocolate and candy sunflower seeds   So, whether I’ll be able to find use for all these presents, that’s a question I’ll allow you to answer yourselves.

Journaling Café: Christmas Lights

Christmas is the season of lights: candle light, twinkle lights, illuminated decorations – we’ve certainly found our way to counter the gloom of winter and brighten up this darkest time of the year. Today’s journaling prompts, therefore, are all about the Christmas lights that bring hope and joy into our hearts and homes: With all the business of preparing for the holidays, I hope you’ll still find time to think about a few of these prompts, and maybe they’ll even inspire you to recall some of your favorite memories of the past. In any way, happy story telling, and don’t get so busy that you don’t have the time to stop and be merry and bright for a moment each day throughout the season! Tackling Your December Daily Project

December 1st is at hand, and for many of us this means embarking on a new journey with the December Daily project. I started a huge hybrid album last year which isn’t anywhere near finished (and I don’t see myself finishing it this year as I’m far too busy with real life at the moment), so for this season, I decided to take a simpler approach. I’m creating a digital album.   Simplicity Is Key The goal for most of us is to keep things simple, and yet to create albums that we’ll enjoy looking at even years from now. I already started my 2011 project last week, and I’m quite pleased with the outcome. But before I started, I sat down and thought through a couple of things that now prove to be very helpful as I’m further into the project, and I thought I’d share some of these considerations with you … TIP NO. 1 | Choosing the Right Format Choosing a format for your project is one key to avoid having …
