Enable Me: The Scrappin Cop

The last Enable Me post has been quite a while ago, so it’s about time that I’d share something fun with you again. I found this blog just recently, and they offer tons of free stuff related to scrapbooking – overlays, textures, elements, and tons and tons of fun doodles. You should check it out, because they might have just the little something extra that you’ve been looking for – for free! (Just be careful when it says CU ok. For CU purposes, whatever is offered on that blog is not for free! Check out their TOU to be on the save side!)

Behind the Scenes: Making Fonts Look Real

I’m excited, because today I’m going to show you one of my favorite techniques in digi-scrapping. I use it on almost every single page I create, and even though the title says that it’s related to fonts, you really can use it for everything – photos, brushes, stamps, rub-ons; everything that you put directly on a textured paper and want the texture to show through. The Example Let me give you an example: You’re writing something on a paper background, but that background has wrinkles and folds. Simply placing your text on top of that will make your journaling look unnatural, and as if the font is kind of floating. That’s what you do not want to happen! Take a look at this page that I created back in April: It has some journaling on some pretty wrinkled/folded paper. Now, let’s take a closer look at the journaling:   This is what the journaling would look like, if I don’t make any adjustments to the text. The letters simply ignore the folds, which makes everything …

Monday Highlight: Paper Pack 3

Well, I meant to highlight another product today, but it’s kind of really late today (got stuck talking to a dear friend on the phone that I haven’t talked to in years), so I’ll just share my latest paper pack with you and call it a day. Like with the other two packs, these solids coordinate perfectly with the newest SSD Quarterly Assortment (2011, Vol. 3). I just realized that I saved the preview in full jpeg quality. If you don’t want it to waste so much of your disk space, you can save the preview image from here, and replace the one that’s in the folder. The download links to my freebies will be up only temporarily, so make sure you grab them before they’re gone. Note: Please do not re-distribute these papers in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use these papers, please make sure to credit them to Misty Hilltops Designs.

Treasure Sunday September 25th

This week the galleries are bursting with beautiful gems, so I picked another seven for my treasure chest today. You are one Smartypants by kewl_jive I just love how she worked so well with the papers and embellishments. The brushes/rubons add depth to the composition, the colors are just beautiful, and of course I don’t need to mention how cute the photo is! Me and my head by caits I’m a sucker for everything doodled, so of course this page jumped right at me when I saw the cutsie flowers, hearts and other embellies. The composition is lovely, making great use of the white space, and I think this is a great example of a photoless layout. Daysleeper by Liahra What a simple, but beautiful page! I love the rustic feel it has with the wooden background, and all the little details she added to this layout. And of course, how can you not fall in love with that cute little sleeper in the photo? I love how she cropped it, too! Our garden princess …

P2D Inspiration: Everyday Moments

I have another great Paper to Digi example for you today. I found this page by Elizabeth Carney over in the 2 Peas gallery: As soon as I saw this layout, I knew I had to try my hand at it digitally. I loved the various paper strips, the numbered filmstrip, and of course the photo strips, not to mention the pretty string wrapped all around the layout. So, I went ahead and created this page, inspired by these features, and here is how that turned out: I also got some inspiration from Ali Edward’s word-art collection, which I used for my title. Anyways, you might want to check out Elizabeth’s gallery for some fun inspiration. Here is another example: And my lift: Like this? Then maybe it’s your turn to find some inspiration in Elizabeth Carney’s gallery.

Freebie Friday: Wish

I’ve been feeling rather crappy again yesterday and most of today, but since I got all those CT layouts that I need to do, I thought, I might as well get another template done. Sorry, I’m not in the mood for chatting much more today, just wish you all a happy Friday, as always! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops Designs.

Hybrid Hub: Thank You Card No. 14

I still have lots of hybrid projects to share with you in store (just finished another layout this morning, which I’ll be sharing with you some times soon), but today, I’m gonna show you another very simple card. This one was done with a collab by Traci Reed and MandaBean (retired SSD) “With or Without You,” and I used Darcy Baldwin’s Stamp Pad Alpha to “stamp” the sentiment. It’s so much fun, to turn a digital product into an actual hybrid project, and if you haven’t tried it yourself, it might be worth it giving it a shot!

Inspire Me: Pencil Lines

It’s the ancient fight between traditional and digital scrappers (or at least as old as the art of digiscrapping). I remember last year coming across a thread in the forum over at Scrapbook.com where some traditional scrappers were doing a pretty hateful campaign against the digital scrapbooking community. More than anything, I was stunned by the offensiveness of their comments as they were raging on about how digital scrapbooking is just a knock-off of the real thing, a poor imitation, and I kept thinking to myself: Traditional and digital scrapbooking are two completely different pairs of shoes, so why can’t we just exist peacefully next to each other, share the galleries, and respect and appreciate the different skills each branch of art requires? Well, today I’m going to make my contribution for tolerance, and provide you with some inspiration that comes from the side of traditional scrapbooking. Recently, I came across a website called “Pencil Lines” which provides sketches for scrapbooking, and some pretty awesome inspiration that comes with that. Ever since then I’ve scoured …

Monday Highlight: Tiebreak

I’m excited to introduce you to a product of a different kind for once: Tiebreak by Erica Zwart With my other passion (besides scrapping & photography, etc.) being tennis, this kit was a must-have for me, as soon as I saw a page using it in the gallery standouts (GSO). And I even managed to get it for half-price (though I don’t know how that happened). I love the graphic feel of this kit that comes with lots of brushes, some word-art, but also the obligatory tennis rackets and a fun assortment of papers. With the other older tennis kit I have, I can finally scrap more of my many tennis photos. Here’s some inspiration, using this kit: For this page (above) – I must admit – I nearly copied a layout that was done by a CT member of Erica’s for this release – that’s how much I loved the design. Here’s a page, using more of my own ideas and creativity. I just love what you can do with this. And just today, …

Treasure Sunday September 18th

Alright, ladies (and gents?), I went on another quest to add more treasures to my chest, and you know what? Instead of one gem, I found that there are so many jewels just lying around in the galleries, I’d better pick up a couple more. I’ll get to fill my ever growing chest of treasures, and you the benefits of me sharing them with you ;-). So, here goes … Best Memory by Jippo I came across this page the other day when searching the gallery over at 2 Peas for some inspiration, and instantly was captured by this page: I love the clean design, that strip down across the page, the scattered flowers, the ribbon with the date element, and most of all the photo. So pretty! So Sweet by Lilas What a sweet page. I love the colors here, the composition, the bits of journaling she scattered over the page, and yet again, the photo is most adorable. And I especially like the photo treatment that works so well with this page. Take …
