Journaling Café: Changing Seasons

November means changing seasons – at least in many parts of the world. Winter is rapidly approaching, and with it, the end of the year, which brings even more changes. So, for this week’s journaling prompt, I thought we could write about changes. Changes in our lives, changes around us, changes in the recent months or this past year … I hope one or two of these prompts will serve you as inspiration for your journaling this week, and as always, don’t forget to link us up with your finished pages that use these prompts! The font used here is my own handwriting font DJB Squirrels In My Pants by Darcy Baldwin (available at the Sweetshoppe).

Treasure Sunday: November 13th

I got you another collection of beautiful gems today. Starting with this one … You Are A Miracle by Gabi Every time I look at this page, it takes my breath away. I love the composition, the brush work, the pops of colors, and the delicate feel of this page. Even the stitches add to the overall beauty of this page. Snow Day by WendyW Admitted, I picked a layout by WendyW earlier, but I’m just in love with this page. Her composition is beautiful, her shadowing impeccable, her clustering looks so realistic, and just looking at this page I can feel the atmosphere of a beautiful winter’s day. Right Now by jennyf29 On to a really fun page. I love the dirt/paint splashes which makes you feel like you’re really in the dirt of the game when looking at this page. But I also love the overall composition, and that acrylic alpha she used for the title. Geek Chic by gonewiththewind Gonewiththewind has a fun page this week that I’d like to point out. …

P2D: Quietude

I want to show you another Paper to Digi sample. For this one, I used teapot2angel’s “She” … … and turned it into a digital layout: I loved the various paper pieces about the traditional scrapbook page, and the overall composition worked really well for a digital page, in my opinion. Anyways, if you haven’t tried your hand at P2D yet, don’t miss out on all the fun and inspiration that is out there!

Freebie Friday: Heart of Autumn

Yes, yes, you’re right, we’re a little late this time. But at least I managed to get you another template, and that counts for something, right? So, with no further ado, let me present to you my Template No. 39: Heart of Autumn. This template is based on my page “The Heart of Autumn,” which I created for the SSD portfolio last month. I hope you like it. And as always, I’d be really happy, if you link us up with your finished pages, featuring any of my templates. That’s it for today, and as always: Happy Friday, scrappers! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops Designs.

Hybrid Hub: Card No. 20

It’s fall y’all – just in case I haven’t mentioned that enough these days! And, because it’s fall, of course, I’m gonna show you a fall-type card today. I made this one with Melissa Bennett’s “Autumn Memories” kit, and “stamped” the sentiment with Darcy Baldwin’s “My Stamp Pad Alpha.” And like most of my cards, it simply says “thank you.”   And now, on to some great news … ta da: Featured Layout The “Featured Layout” is back, just in case you haven’t noticed that either (though some of you have, which means you don’t really need to read the rest of this post, except for what’s going on at the bottom!). This morning, while in the shower, some genius struck me, and I decided to revive my “Featured Layout” page again. I hadn’t posted any of my layouts there in a long time, because I didn’t want to flood the Digi-Scrap Corner with all my layouts, making you feel bored out of your minds, or run away from this site, screaming with annoyance. But …

Inspire Me: Jazzmin

Her pages are fun and fresh, and full of excitement. I love  browsing through Jazzmin’s gallery, because she always has new ideas to scrap her memories and her thoughts. Many times have I found inspiration for one of my own pages in her gallery, and if you were to ask me, which of her pages I liked best – I wouldn’t be able to tell you, since she has so many awesome layouts to admire and draw inspiration from. And best of all, she journals in German, which always makes my heart skip with excitement! (For those of you who don’t understand German – even her journaling style is fun to read.) So, if you haven’t heard of Jazzmin yet (she’s also a digiscrap designer with some great products), make sure to check out her gallery for your share of inspiration!

Behind the Scenes: Principles of Design – Creating Active Space

It’s been a long while since I talked about principles of design the last time. So, today I want to discuss something that I’ve meant to share for a long time, and that is the Composition Principle of Active Space. Generally speaking, this rule applies to composition in photography and art, but today I’ll show you how it is useful to know about this principle in scrapbooking as well. What Do I Mean With “Active Space?” Active space is the space “in front” of the person/object; the space a person/object is moving or looking towards. When you look at a photography, your eye usually will be lead through the image. If the composition is bad, your eye doesn’t actually know where to look, or what exactly to focus on, but if you have some understanding of composition, you can determine where you want the observer to look first, and how you want their eyes to move over your picture. This is where the principle of active space becomes important. Example If the subject in your …

Journaling Café: Autumn

DSD is over, and I hope you had a lot of fun shopping and scrapping this weekend. With all the DSD craziness, I decided to take a break yesterday, but today I’m back, and with some exciting news for you, too – at least I hope you’ll think so! I decided to make another slight change to my Digiscrap Corner. Don’t worry, it’ll be for your benefit. In the past, I’ve posted journaling prompts every once in a while in my “Enable Me/Inspire Me” section on Wednesdays. But I also have lots of other goodies and inspiration to share with you on Wednesdays, so most of the time, the journaling part kinda comes too short. So, I decided to shift things a bit, and turn the Monday Highlight into a Journaling Café. How’s that for a change? In other words, from now on every Monday I’ll post new journaling prompts to inspire you. Now, I’m hoping for your participation, too, and that you’ll link us up and share the pages you create with these prompts …

P2D & Lot’s of Fun in Digi-Land

I got inspired again. This time by this page, titled “Anticipation” by  jbarksdale. I loved the centered mat about this page, and the fun embellishment strip through the middle. So I tried my hand on this, and here’s how my page turned out: Make sure to check out jbarksdale’s other layouts, because her gallery is full of fun and inspirational pages. And if you’re only remotely connected to digiscrapping, you’re probably aware of all the craziness going on in digiland, because of Digital Scrapbook Day (DSD). So, make sure to check out the stores, coz there are sales and giveaways going on everywhere. A few activities going on this weekend, I’d like to point out to you: Blog Trains Make sure to check out these blog trains, because they have some really pretty stuff to give away: DSD Blog Train MScraps Blog Train 1 ZigZagScrap Blog Train I’m not going to point you to every store in digiland that I’m aware of, but I’m going to point out that some stores offer collaboration kits free …
