Learning How to Learn

130722-Photo-Jul

My bouquet of experiences is continuing. This week that means I’m back in school! One more week of learning, and what’s exciting about it is that we’re learning about how to learn! Well, good to know that, since I’m nearing the end of my current academic endeavors. I’m glad I’m not missing out on this essential piece of knowledge. And as we learn, we also learn about excellent pieces of art. Such as the one that was at the center of our learning today.

Well, then, on to learning new things once more!

Flowers, an Island, and Butterflies

Lake Constance. It’s the largest lake in Germany (though admitted, we share it with two other countries – Switzerland and Austria). And since Lake Constance is pretty big, it even has a couple of islands, one of them being Mainau, which actually is owned by Swedish nobility. And Mainau is a place of flowers, gardens, a castle, rare and exotic plants, and a butterfly house. Reason enough, the family thought, to spend a beautiful summer day at Lake Constance and on Mainau island.

The Ant War Zone

130720-Photo-JulCheck this out: This is little Professor Nephew trying to conduct research and see how a bunch of small little field ants get along with one representer of the larger species of their kind (they actually don’t, he found out). If we do a little recap, you may remember that a couple weeks back a friend of mine got an ant working place as a present from someone else. Back then I was fascinated immediately and pretty soon thereafter thought an ant working place such as this would make a pretty perfect present for young Professor Nephew. And indeed, I don’t regret having given him this present. Though I do regret (an antsy little bit) that he decided to put two different kinds of ant people in there, because with all the biting on each other’s legs and such I wonder how many of the ants are actually going to survive this night … I guess Professor Nephew’s research results will tell him in the morning!

P2D: We Two

This week with my family has been fun, and so I decided to scrap about one of the things that happened. But first, of course, I should show you the layout that inspired my page:

Ok, so what I loved about this page was the overall composition and all the little details, like the hard element, the butterfly, the little wordart pieces. I also loved the use of paper as a mat, so I tried to incorporate a couple of these things on a digital page of my own, and here’s what came of it …

The Lucky Ones

130719-Photo-JulMy sister took me to a lady’s night tonight, and it seems to me that we were rather lucky people. Not only were we treated as VIP for the simple fact that my sister provided part of the stage decoration, no we actually were really lucky. You see, it was actually a really hot and summery day. Too hot for the ice cream vendor, indeed, because the ice cream was melting, and shortly after we’d gotten our share of the delicious treat they had to close everything and stop selling. So, yes, I consider it great luck that we were some of the few people who – on a hot day – were able to get something fresh and cool!

Freebie Friday: Daybreak at the Sea – Part 1

Ahoy, mates and friends of the digital scrapbooking guild! I’m excited yet once more, because I get to begin sharing a new kit with you. This one’s all about misty days by the ocean, though the kit is versatile enough for you to use in other digital (& hybrid) scrapbooking projects as well. As always, “Daybreak by the Sea” is jam-packed with unique papers and elements, some of them specifically created for this kit. Today you’ll receive the first part, the alphas (no surprise there for those who know how the routine goes, huh!).

I hope you’ll enjoy this kit, and please … I’d be excited to see what you’ve created with this kit and any other of my freebie kits for that matter. Remember, please, to credit everything to Misty Hilltops Designs, and keep in mind my Terms of Use, which means you may only use the contents of this product for your own personal scrapbooking needs (no commercial use, no direct-linking to the download page at mediafire, no sharing of any part of this product – sharing a link to mistyhilltops.com is welcomed).

For now, don’t forget to come back and collect the next part; and if you’ve just discovered this freebie, you may want to check out the tag “freebies” because all the older kits are still available for download, too!

One little note:
I’ve received a comment that a link to an older freebie template was broken. I’m sorry to say that that’s true. Downloads for older freebie templates expired about one month after I’d posted them, so those links will appear as broken. (The only exception are freebie templates 34-50, which should still be available for download, if I’m not mistaken.) As I’m far behind blogging these days in general, I don’t see that I’ll get to upload older freebies to mediafire any time soon, so I’m really sorry if you see one of the older templates you like and the link is broken …

Now, off to a busy weekend. Happy scrapping for you, friends …

People Like Sandy

130718-Photo-JulLook who I found on my bed today. This lady’s called Sandy. And it’s not like I invited her onto my bed. But I guess it’s the nature of people like Sandy – they usually don’t care much about what other people think. They usually do what they want to do when they want to do it. And I guess, we real people have to learn to take these furry people the way they are – if we want to keep our lives as peaceful and quiet as they can.
