I’m a long-time December Daily creator, and over the years I’ve created quite a number of albums. With it comes the experience of what works, and what doesn’t work well. Obviously, this is different for eyeryone, but I think I might have some general tips.

Schon viele Jahre erstelle ich Weihnachtsalben, und damit wächst auch die Erfahrung, was gut läuft, und was vielleicht floppt.
Was läuft und was nicht ist für jeden natürlich unterschiedlich. Aber ich habe hier ein paar allgemeine Tipps.

1. Your Album Doesn’t Have to Be Finished in December
December is one of the busiest seasons of the year. While part of the fun is working on Christmas projects, it’s the memories we make over the season that make Christmas albums worth the while. I find it’s more important to me to make memories than to keep up with creating pages for my album every day. Sometimes I don’t work on my album several days in a row. But I always know that my album doesn’t have to be completed in December. I can finish it when the season is over and things slow down again in the new year.
1. Das Album muss nicht im Dezember fertig werden
Der Dezember ist in der Regel eine super geschäftige Zeit. Während es Spass macht, an einem Weihnachtsalbum zu arbeiten, sind es die Erinnerungen, die wir sammeln, die einem solchen Album ihren Wert geben. Deshalb finde ich es wichtiger, diese Erlebnisse zu machen, als jeden Tag Zeit mit Basteleien zu verbringen. Manchmal gibt es mehrere Tage, an denen ich nicht an meinem Weihnachtsalbum arbeite. Aber es muss auch nicht im Dezember fertig werden. Ich kann es fertigstellen, wenn die geschäftigtste Zeit des Jahres vorbei ist.
2. Find a Design That Works for You
There are so many beautiful examples of December albums out on the WWW. But much of what I see I wouldn’t be able to do. Either because I don’t have access to the same kinds of products, the time commitment is too much, or I have other reasons why I can’t do certain things with my albums. But the good news: I don’t have to keep up with the rest of the world. I find what works best for me. Und often I find that those albums that allow for much flexibility work best for me. For example, one issue I find is that I don’t know how many photos I’ll have for a particular day. But with albums that allow for flexible handling, I don’t have to worry so much about it.
2. Finde ein System, dass für dich richtig ist
Es gibt so viele schöne Beispiele von Dezemberalben im WWW. Aber vieles würde bei mir einfach nicht funktionieren. Entweder habe ich keinen Zugang zu den selben Produkten, der Zeitaufwand ist zu groß für mich, oder es gibt andere Gründe, warum manche Dinge bei mir einfach nicht in Frage kommen. Aber ich muss auch nicht mit dem Rest der Welt mithalten. Ich finde einfach, was mir am Besten passt. Und oft sind das Alben, mit denen ich flexibel sein kann, da ich im Voraus oft nicht weiss, wieviele Fotos ich an einem Tag schießen werde.
3. Keep It Simple
One of the designs that I find works best for me are albums with pockets. I can still create beautiful pages with pretty Christmas papers. I can decorate those pages – either go all out, and pile on the goodies, or keep things simple. But what’s best is that the pockets allow me to add few or many memorabilia from that day.

Das System, das für mich am Besten funktioniert ist eines mit Taschen und Einsteckfächern. Ich kann meine herrlichen Weihnachtspapiere verwenden, und beim dekorieren kann ich die Seite voll laden, oder es einfach halten. Aber was an solchen Taschen und Fächern das Beste ist, ist dass ich viele Erinnerungsstücke zur Seite hinzufügen kann, oder wenige.

The following are templates I used for my projects over the year. I’ve worked with different album sizes but I found that I keep coming back to pocket designs because they give me the greatest flexibility. No matter whether I have many or few photos on any given day, pockets allow me to add more or less to each page.
