EnglishI’ve been really busy this last week – getting this year’s Christmas cards ready. After all, rather than sending the cards at the end of the season, I thought it’s best to have everything sent out at the beginning of the season. Today, it was making the envelopes, and then preparing to mail things. DeutschDie letzte Woche war ich ganz damit beschäftigt, die Weihnachtskarten für dieses Jahr zu basteln. Ich dachte mir, es wäre besser, die Karten früher als später fertigzustellen. Heute war ich hauptsächlich damit beschäftigt, Umschläge zu basteln, und alles für den Versand vorzubereiten.

EnglishThe Christmas season brings many joys. Like the fact that I can go to any store and it’s filled with Christmas things. So different from where I’ve spent the last decade. Sure, when I still lived here, I thought it was annoying when Christmas stuff shows up months earlier. But now that I haven’t experienced this in so many years, I’m learning to appreciate even the small things in life. DeutschDie Weihnachstzeit bringt viele Freuden. Zum Beispiel die Tatsache, dass alle Läden nun weihnachtlich aussehen. Das ist so anders, wo ich das letzte Jahrzehnt verbracht habe. Klar, als ich hier noch gewohnt habe, fand man es vielleicht ein bisschen übertrieben, wenn weihnachtlicher Kram schon Monate vorher in den Läden auftauchte. Aber nun, wo ich das so viele Jahre nicht gehabt habe, da lerne ich das schätzen.

EnglishMother has been busy shopping, and sister gets to fill our family advent calendar. That one works like this: Little bags are filled with treats, and then everyone in the family takes turns. Names are drawn each day, and whoever in the family is the lucky one, that day gets to keep the treats in the bag. It’s a family tradition that we started when I was still living at home, and it’s still alive and well. And as if that’s not enough, Mother even filled up and advent calendar that I get to have all by myself. I feel so blessed by her! DeutschMutter war damit beschäftigt, einzukaufen, und Schwesterherz hat dann den Familienadventskalender befüllt. Dieser funktioniert in etwa so: Kleine Säckchen werden mit Naschereien befüllt, und dann geht es in der Familie reihum. Jeden Tag wird ein Name gezogen, und dann darf sich das Familienmitglied das Säckchen dieses Tages aneignen.
