A Bug Box

Ein Käferkasten   Look, what the kids were playing with during our last visit to the orphanage: a bug box. In our case, the bug box was filled with caterpillars. And the kids were able to watch the caterpillars turn into cocoons and then into beautiful butterflies. And while I prefer to keep my distance to both caterpillars and cocoons, I thought it fascinating to watch the kids play with their bug boxes. Seht mal, was bei unserem letzten Besuch im Kinderheim gerade voll der Hit war: ein Käferkasten. D.h. in diesem Fall war er mit Raupen belegt. Und die Kids konnten hautnah miterleben, wie die Raupen sich verpuppen und dann in wunderschöne Schmetterlinge verwandeln. Und während ich sowohl bei Raupen als auch Puppen lieber auf Abstand bleibe, fand ich es doch ziemlich interessant, die Kids und ihren Käferkasten zu erleben.             Click on images to enlarge / Zum Vergrößern auf die Bilder klicken

Dining Hall Specials: Strawberry Shortcake

Cafeteria Spezial: Erdbeerschnitten   These days our chef has been spoiling us a little here and there. Like the strawberry shortcake that was offered. Of course, everyone is so excited that chef doesn’t just place it on the buffet with other foods. Rather, he has the staff hand out these things clearly rationed, meaning you really only get one portion of shortcake. For me, that’s enough, though, and I’m really happy about the treat anyway. Unser Koch verwöhnt uns derzeit ein bisschen. Wie z.B. mit den Erdbeerschnitten. Natürlich ist jeder ganz heiß darauf, sodass Koch sie nicht einfach am Buffet anbietet, wie das restliche Essen, sondern er hat das Personal angewiesen sie klar zu rationieren. Mit anderen Worten: Dir steht nur eine Portion Erdbeerschnitten zu. Sonst nichts. Mir reicht es aber, und dankbar bin ich allemal.              

After the Storm

Nach dem Sturm   We don’t often get storms. And if we do, they usually don’t turn out very bad. This one, however, had us up in our beds last night. And when we came down into our lobby everything was pretty much flooded. But then, that’s what our lobby does any time there’s a bit of rain, so naturally, we had to expect a little more water this time. Wir haben nicht oft Stürme. Und wenn es stürmt, dann gewöhnlich nicht sehr stark. Dieser Sturm hatte es allerdings ein wenig in sich. Und als wir dann in unsere Eingangshalle kamen herrschte erstmal landunter. Aber dann, das passiert ja auch schon nach normalen Regenfällen. Daher musste diesmal mit ein bisschen mehr Wasser gerechnet werden.
