Last Day of Class

Don’t you agree that last days of class are always special? For one, it means, another year of school has been completed successfully. On another note, it means that the break is at hand, and if I wasn’t busy with all that other school work, I’d definitely be having more time for leisurely things. And, of course, it means I get to send off my students to a new chapter of life, where they pass on from their freshman state of existences to something a little more substantial: they get to be sophomores! Anyways, I feel a huge sense of relief wash over me, whenever I wake up to the last day of class.

Commencement 2012

Graduation is always a bittersweet occasion. Of course, it’s the celebration of the completion of our students’ years at university, and that’s a happy thing. And yet, at the same time, it also means farewell from those students who we have gotten to know a little closer, and that is a less pleasant event. Yet, every year, it’s time to say good-bye to thousands of students, and this year it’s no difference.

It’s Show Time

It’s homecoming season. And that always means parades and the famous homecoming ceremony. And that of course means show time. Students (and teachers) of the art departments get to show off their talents as they dance, sing, and perform whatever other skills they have, and we get to enjoy a somewhat grand performance. Chinese style, of course!

Of Cameras and Travels

This is what happens when you allow your camera to go traveling with a friend who wanted to borrow it: It gets to see all the places that you wish you could have gone to instead. I wish, my friend had just asked if he could take me instead of my camera to come along with him. I would have certainly appreciated to see those places more than my camera. But I guess that’s the purpose of my camera’s existence: traveling, seeing beautiful places, experiencing fun moments. And I? I just have to be content with looking at the pictures … … and hope that one day, I’ll get to go myself!

Strawberry Season

They’re red. They’re soft. And oh so sweet and yummy! You guessed it, of course! It’s strawberry season. And with a fruit store across the street from where I live, of course, it’s impossible to resist that temptation to stop by, and get myself a handful (or maybe a bag-ful) of this yummy treat. Good thing is, I can buy them in portions as I’ll eat them. So, I don’t have to fear they go bad before I’ve been able to devour them. Yes, I love fruit stores that don’t have everything pre-packed and portioned. One of the advantages of living in China!
