Another Normal Night

I’m saying good-bye … to the old year that is. Not that this has any special meaning here in China! New Year’s Eve here is just another night like every other – who cares that with the stroke of midnight the number of the year changes? The real new year here begins with Spring Festival, which isn’t for another couple of weeks. Tonight, students will go to bed at the usual time, and the campus remain quiet. Like I said, it’s just another normal night …

December Daily – Week 5 Recap

I did it! As of today, I’ve completed my 2011 December Daily project, and I’m all excited about it. Have all but the last week printed and cut already, and tomorrow I’ll assemble it into an actual album! But before I’m running away with myself, let me show you what I’ve done this past week (images are linked to gallery for product information): And now I’m very relieved that I can move on to some other scrapping projects again. But I’ll post my finished album, once I can get good pictures of it. PS. For more inspiration, see Week 4, Week 3, Week 2, and Week 1.

Freebie Friday: Review

Boy, it’s late! And I should be in bed. But I managed to get you a brand new template again. With the year coming to a closure, I thought it would be good to get you a template that would help you scrap your year in review. But it’s also versatile enough that you can use it for any other ordinary page. And if you don’t have 12 photos you want to scrap, just use paper instead. So, here comes based on my page “Year in Review:”   I hope you’ll find some use for this template somehow. And I’m gonna leave you as always wishing you happy scrapping! Note: Please do not re-distribute this template in any way (you may share the link to this post), and when you use this template, please make sure to credit it to Misty Hilltops Designs.

What Apples Have to Do With Christmas

Well, traditionally apples have been part of the Christmas decoration, at least in Germany, where I grew up. The typical vintage Christmas tree would include apple ornaments. And then there are the baked apples, of course. But those can be eaten any time in the winter, they’re not really a Christmas specific treat. But if you look for apples on modernly decorated Christmas trees, you’ll look in vain. Here, on the other hand, a Christmas without apples can’t be a real Christmas, as I was sternly reminded by one of my students on Christmas Eve who insisted I had to eat the apple he gave me that night. The apple farmers in China surely will stress the fact that apples belong to Christmas like a white beard to Santa Clause. After all, they’re making a ton of extra business, producing apples that have grown ripe with pictures on them, or season’s greetings. And those special Christmas apples, of course, sell for special prices that most of all make those apple farmers happy. But I’m sure, …

Enable Me: Christmas Words

If you’re still working on some Christmas layouts, then this post might be for you. This Christmas season, I went collecting. In my notebook, I kept a growing list of Christmas themed words that would do great for titles, word art and word strips. And I thought I’d share that list with you, before the season is entirely over. So here goes … – adorn – advent – all is calm – angel – bells – bright – candle light – caroling – decoration – fa la la – family – festive – holiday – holly – jolly – joy – naughty or nice – merry – mistletoe – nativity – noel – peace – season – sparkle – star – tradition – twinkle – wish And if you know some more words that would do great on a layout, just post a comment and we can keep this list growing …

Enable Me: 2012 Calendars

The year of 2011 is almost at an end. It’s the last chance to get the new calendars for 2012 ready in time. I’m rather excited that I finally get to show you the calendar I made back in October, using Cindy Schneider’s and Dani Mogstad’s calendar templates. They come in various sizes, and are perfect to jump start any calendar project, and if you haven’t decided what to do for a 2012 calendar yet, they’re the perfect solution. I actually ordered a bunch of calendars to give to family and friends (thus all pictures of myself, and thus I couldn’t post earlier, because I didn’t want to give away the surprise), and I hope I get to print my own version (with different photos) before the end of the week. If you are looking for calendar inspiration – most template designers release their own version of calendars, and there’s tons of inspiration in the galleries, too!
