Freebie Friday: Cookies 4 Kids

I know, I’ve been really bad with posting new freebies recently. But being out of town and really busy trying to stay on top of the pile of things to do around here, I decided to go light today, and just link you up with the freebies they offer every day over at SSD. Simply click HERE to go over to their thread where they have a new freebie every day throughout December. Make sure to check there daily, as the downloads only work about 24 hours after posting.

DIY: Christmas No. 4

Christmas is fast approaching, but it’s still time to get those Christmas cards out, so today I’ll bring you another how to on creating your own Christmas card. First, as always, we need to create the card (with all the mats, background papers and embellishments) in our graphic program. This card is a rather simple one, so it only has five printable parts to it: Two background mats, the base for the ribbon, the label and the snowflake. I also used a white ribbon and a piece of string. After creating and arranging the different mats and elements in photoshop, I open a new canvas where I drag and drop everything and arrange it for printing. (Always make sure on the printing canvas to have nothing overlap!) Once I’ve printed everything, cutting and assembling starts. I use white cardstock (size A5) for the base layer, fold it in half and begin to adhere the two background mats on there. The order doesn’t matter, because the ribbon will cover where the two will overlap. I measure …

Around Town: Discovering H&M, C&A & Co.

For some, they’re just a few of the many clothing stores. For others, they’re the go-to places for shopping: H&M, C&A & Co. For me – saying it plainly – they’re reason for great excitement! Not because they would be my No. 1 choice, if I had choices, but simply because they are the only choice for Western clothes around here. Yes, I’m excited! Because we have them in the city now. It only takes about 2-3 hours to get there, but hey – who cares about that, if you finally have a chance to find Western style clothes? Only recently did I learn we had H&M in the city, and the other day, one of my friends took me there. Unfortunately, we already were on our way out of the city, so it was just enough time to have a peek, but it’s surely exciting when all of a sudden you find clothes in a style that you actually like! Now, the only problem left is: I simply need to find the time to …

Food Corner: Special Treats

They are not quite Christmas snacks, or seasonal treats by any means – the special goodies I get to enjoy recently, thanks to my family and friends who hooked me up with them. In Germany, they are pretty normal snacks and sweet treats, used generally throughout the year. Here, however, they are really special, because they are a little piece of home for me. Some of these snacks you can even get here, but since they’ve been imported they usually are so expensive that they are out of my reach. Now, though, they fill my little Advent calendar, and every once in a while they are just that: I special treat for me!

Inspire Me: December Daily

Hello, December Daily lovers. As we are approaching mid-December (only about ten more days until Christmas!!!), and as there are tons of people out there participating in the December Daily project, I thought, I’d hook you up with some inspiration. I started my own December Daily album (and I’m pretty much caught up with each day, yay for that!), and whoever does a somewhat larger crafts project is always glad for inspiration. Probably the No. 1 place to go is the Flickr group Ali Edwards started herself, where everyone participating can upload their photos. It’s a well-spring of inspiration (new photos are uploaded basically by the minute!) and I love flipping through the pages in search for ideas for my own album. OTS has some tips on how to Tackle a DD project. Of course, Ali Edwards (the inventor of the DD) is a wonderful source of information as well. Check out her website as she takes you step by step through her process of creating an album. And my last contribution to getting you …

Places to Go: Jiao Zuo – Ying Shi Cheng

Most people know Jiao Zuo because of Yuntai Mountain or the Henan Polytechnical University. There is, however, another place right in Jiao Zuo worth checking out – Ying Shi Cheng. The Film and TV City. Erected in 1995, it is one of China’s top ten filming locations for historical tv and movie productions. The entire area facilitates two palace complexes, a small town center (including a main road, private houses, guest house, restraurant, etc.), a temple, a farm house and even a wall that could count as the Great Wall. Passing through, you really feel taken back in time when emperors still ruled the nation and romance and adventure waited just around the corner. And if you are lucky, you might even run into a film crew working on a production. Once they see it, most Chinese are familiar with the place because of the many movie scenes that have been produced here and many famous actors have sweated and enjoyed the dramas, tragedies, romance and adventures enfolding here in Yin Shi Cheng. Entrance fees …
