Behind the Scenes: Year in Review

It’s that time of the year again – some people call it “between the years” – when it’s good to look back on the past year and reflect. Reflect on all the good memories we made, as well as learn from the mistakes we made. For us scrappers, there are lots of different ways to review our year and keep the memories that matter most to us. We can do double page spreads and try to fit as many pictures in as possible, we can even do single page year reviews. Some designers offer great templates to help us scrap our pages just as we prefer them. Let me show you just a few of the products that are available on the market:

Behind the Scenes: Making a Template Your Own

Lots of people love to use templates. Layered templates are easy to use and they help you to quickly get a page together that is guaranteed to look good (or at least as good as the template you chose). I like templates, too, though I don’t use them too often, simply because I like my pages to look different than other people’s. However, there are lots of possibilities of how you can make a template really your own! Here’s What I Did I used a template from EH Studio’s template set “Moments in the Morning” (available at OTS). Here you can see all the templates, and I used the one in the lower left corner. So, after opening the template in photoshop, the first thing I did was rotate it. Now the photo cluster ended up to the left. I clipped my photo papers to the masks, but I also added a few more papers, and then several layers of embellishments (flowers, leaves, etc. I love clustering, have you ever noticed?) Scatters always help to …

Behind the Scenes: Organizing Files

There are always lots of people wondering about what’s a good way to store your digi-scrap files and how to stay on top of all the stuff you have, that is: how to stay organized. After all, digi-scrapping can get quite as messy as actual paper scrapping, if you don’t have a good system on how to store your goodies and keep your desktop clean. Now, I’m aware that there are almost as many ways of storing things, as there are different types of scrappers. But I thought, today I’d give you some insight into what I’m doing to keep things neat and easy to find. Here’s What I Do The first thing I do after downloading and unzipping a folder is to rename each individual file in the folder. I keep the original names, but in front I add information stating the type of the supply (background, mat, button, bow, ribbon, label, flower, stitch, stamp, brush, beads, scatters, paint strokes, weather elements, etc.) and the colors involved (I only use main colors such as: …

Behind the Scenes: “Rejoice”

Admitted: yesterday I promised that today I would tell you about what I recently did using all my Christmas kits, but at the time I didn’t realize that I actually confused the order of posts. So, instead I will take you “Behind the Scenes” again today and I hope you don’t mind waiting until tomorrow to find out more about my Christmas goodies! Let’s take a look at “Rejoice” today: Here’s what I did … The challenge for this layout actually was to use two digi-scrap kits and combine them (a challenge posted by Kristin Cronin-Barrow in the SSD thread for International Scrapbook Day). I used a template by Cindy Schneider (SSD), and took two kits, “Serenity” by Zoe Pearn and “Naturally You” by KCB to work with. Using a template of any kind always helps a lot, though I really like to make them my “own”! I do that by adding a few extra embellishments, changing the order of layers, etc. For this page in particular, I added a few scatters (one to the …
