Winter in the Harz Mountains

Harzer Winter I can never have enough of winter. And with the Harz mountains so close to home it was kind of a no-brainer for us to take a little trip there to enjoy more of the snowy bounty.

A Day in Winter Wonderland

Ein Tag im Winter Wunderland Alright, we had the most gorgeous, most wonderful day in winter wonderland. Dear brother-in-law took us out, high up into the Black Forest, and aside from the most beautiful scenery we got to enjoy sledding, snowboarding, sunbathing and taking beautiful winter hikes. Of course, it was icy cold. But well dressed as we were for the occasion, that mattered nothing. Instead we got blown away by the sparkle und brilliance of sunbathed winter fields. Here’s a tiny glimpse of the things we got to enjoy: Also gut, wir hatten den besten, allerschönsten Tag im Winter Wunderland. Hier bekommt ihr einen winzigen Eindruck:   I wish, photos could capture the sparkling fields of snow. Ich wünschte, die Fotos könnten …

winter, snow, Schnee

Hooray! Winter Is Here!

Hurra! Der Winter ist da! And because it’s winter, and because “winter” in my vocabulary should be translated as “snow”, of course, we have to go outside a lot more than usual. Except that, the other day with our nighttime sledding (and not knowing what our sleds would bump), we got pretty bruised and moving around is a little more demanding than usual.

Nagold, christmas, winter, snow

Winter and Christmas in Nagold

Winter im weihnachtlichen Nagold It’s been in the forecast for a while now, but the other it finally happened. It snowed. And anyone who knows me will also know how much I like snow. Except that instead of being able to play in the snow, we were in town at the time it started. No reason to make a fuss, though. Nagold was beautiful, and signs of Christmas still all around. A perfect little outing. And then, of course, we had to go sledding at the first opportune moment. That opportune moment was around 9:30 in the evening, after we …

On (Frozen) Pond and Other Winter Tales

Vom gefrorenen Weiher und andere Wintermärchen Winter is starting to take shape. So, dear sister offered to take us to a nearby pond for some ice skating. Her colleagues told her they’d been there, done that. So, we quickly go rummaging through dear sisters extensive winter sport equipment to dig up a couple of ice skates for us to use, and off we go to said pond. Except that when we arrive, we find the pond having a huge hole in the middle of the ice – not quite as frozen as we thought. And I guess, here shows that we really have done our bit of growing up. Because instead of blowing all concerns to the wind, bracing the danger, and putting our plans into action, we do what all reasonable ladies should do: we decide to skip ice skating and go into town for some shopping. Now, that’s how things are supposed to be, aren’t they?

Adventure Time: Hohloh Swamp Kaltenbronn

Abenteuer im Hochmoor Hohloh bei Kaltenbronn   The new year is starting out well. Instead of sitting inside, we decided to spend the afternoon out of doors. Near Kaltenbronn, Black Forest, brother-in-law took us with sister and friend. It was cold. Yes. But oh so worth it. First, we climbed the many stairs up the Hohloh Tower, from where we had the most gorgeous view over the Black Forest. We could even make out the Alps in the far distance, though the Rhine Valley was still shrouded in fog. Kalt wars. Ja. …
